How Do You Get To Become An MLB Manager?
I mean seriously guys... I played Baseball for 15 years and I will be the first to say that being an MLB Manager is a JOKE!

You don't do anything at all... You make a lineup.. And have maybe 5 different scenarios that you might need to resort to during the period of 9 innings... Its ridiculous... How can you be a bad manager? I dont get it...

I think in baseball it all falls on the shoulders of the GM...

But baseball does suck... Not near as many good bets as NCAAFB, NCAABB, NFL and NBA... Even NHL

as far as game time decisions go, a manager is in a position to win or lose his team an extra 2 or 3..... games a year.....which can be a huge swing... but it also means that in 95% of games the manager doesn't matter.... 95% of all "moves" are done by the book/percentages

I do think certain managers can have a big influence on clubhouse/team environment chemistry stuff.

you can't just have a "team" of rotating managers like the cubs tried one year, with a panel of 5 or 6 guys that were ALL the head coach..... or the Veek promotion where he had the crowd VOTE on certain moves throughout the game..... you need a solid leader of men

The manager is obviously more important in the NL, more brains needed late in game with double swtiches etc

Good example was in interleague play when Jays boss Cito Gaston had his closer bat for himself and run the bases because he didnt know the double switch rule, and then the following night he arsed his double switch up so his RP had to bat again lol

I heard that Joe Torre is a good manager because as a former catcher he knows how to help young pitchers be better at their trade.

I'm not sure how true that is. But the people saying this were former baseball players, they were on some baseball talk show.

I think that in the days of high salaried, high ego young players that one of the manager's most important jobs is keeping the antics on and off the field to a minimum. Baseball is a mental game and it is hard to swing a bat if your mind is on the nonsense that some idiot is causing the team.

Look at how many teams have fallen apart because of drama caused by some high salaried idiot.

The Giants are so much better this year because Bonds left. His presence was a killer due to all the distractions.

So, I think the manager is important for setting and keeping an environment where the players can focus on their trade and not be distracted by stupidity.
