Plasma, LED OR LCD

I have heard that Plasma TVs are soon to be extinct and within a few years they won't even be made. Is it all about LCD and LED?? I am an expert in this area at all.. what is the main differences between them? what would you go with?

don't know the tech differences but LEDs looks better and way thinner and they don't heat up as much.

LED will be the new thing as the bulbs are brighter and last longer. Plasma is on it's way out and looking at my brothers two year old plasma I can tell why.

I'd get LED.

LED TV (Light-emitting diode television) is a term used by Samsung to describe their line of LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs that utilize LED backlighting. The term LED TV is disputed and currently a war of words and advertisements is ongoing between Samsung and its competitors.[citation needed] The competitors'[who?] complaint is that the display is not composed of 100% LEDs and so should not be called LED TV.[citation needed]

LEDs in their current form are much too large to be individual pixels on a conventional television. The use of a true LED display is therefore reserved for much larger screens in sports grounds and other commercial locations. It is most likely that Samsung has chosen to brand their LED-lit range of LCD TVs in this way in order to capture some of the hype around O-LED TVs, which are still not commercially available except for the Sony XEL-1.

LED-backlit LCD TVs do differ from conventional LCD TVs in some important areas: 1- They can produce a very bright image and deep blacks (doesn't work for Edge-LED). 2- With Edge-LED lighting they can be extremely slim. 3- They can offer lower power consumption. 4- They can offer a wider colour gamut, especially when RGB-LED backlighting is used.

If you are looking for a 50-incher on a budget, I'd suggest going with a 50-inch Samsung plasma or Panasonic plasma. Check out the reviews on cnet. However, if you can't control the lighting in your room, or are for whatever reason concerned about power consumption, get LCD instead. If you are really looking to save money, and aren't sitting within about 6-8 feet, and don't intend to use it as a computer monitor, you can definitely go 720p without missing anything.

Really, you will be happy with whatever you end up getting though.

I have a 55" Samsung 7100 I also have a 37" LCD. I love the LED. It is amazing. Tell me I don't, just do it, I will of course follow up with pics with a "Deuce" tag next to each.

I also know more about televisions than 99% here. I guarantee it. Mortal lock.

I would go Samsung LED no doubt. I have one of their DLP sets with the LED backlight and it makes a phenominal difference compared to non-LED lit sets. Especially with DLP but also with LCD.

Don't go smaller than 42" or you will be dissapointed. I originally bought a 42" for a room with a viewing distance of 6-8 feet and was not satisfied. If you are used to having a full screen set go big for your widescreen HD set or else you will feel like the tv is much smaller than the size indicates.
