Santa Monica pier is a dump

If you want to go to a museum go to the Getty or the Getty Villa if you can get a reservation. The Science museum downtown is cool - you can see the Space Shuttle. I am not sure if the King Tut exhibit is still at the Natural History museum but that was definitely worth it.

Maybe go see a band at the Roxy or Whisky

If you want a good spot to eat near the beach check out MB Post in Manhattan Beach.

Venice is a dump.

Abbot Kinney used to be the hood. When I lived there I saw drive by's. Now you can buy your lady a 200$ t shirt. I just drive through when I have to.

Go to The Pantry downtown for breakfast and make sure you ask for the Sourdough Toast. Historic restaurant, open 24 hrs. since 1924 and never without a customer

Ironically, we were going to the Santa Monica pier, mainly just because that’s the one you always see

I was looking at going to the science and naturals history museums, they appear to be right next to each other.

Santa Monica pier is ok - kind of a "check the box" kind of deal. It's a complete zoo so unless you like Mexicans and a beach you can't swim at, it's kind of overrated. Me I love Mexicans personally. There's little carnival rides and games and a little aquatic thingy that tells you about the bay. You might be better off watching the freaks on Venice Beach or cruising down to Manhattan or Hermosa.
