    Vegas Dave's Baseball Picks 06/26/09
Pick 1: New York Mets +153 over New York Yankees

Mike Pelfrey has been pretty consistent this season in at least keeping his team in the game. He usually gives up about two runs over the course of 6-7 innings. Tampa Bay got to him in his last out as he gave up four earned runs through five; but I expect something in the middle from him at home today, somewhere in the ballpark of 6 innings of 3 earned ball.

Against Sabathia, who has not been sharp of late and may not even be 100%, this game could easily be a close one that comes down to the late innings; nothing like the +153 price indicates.

Pick 2: Boston Red Sox -117 over Atlanta Braves

With the exception of one bad start, Josh Beckett has been masterful of late, giving up ZERO earned runs in four of his last six starts (and one earned run in the other game). With the better offense on his side, I like him tonight even against a worthy opponent in Jurrjens

Pick 3: San Francisco +145 over Milwaukee Brewers

I can't say that I don't understand why the line is where it is. With two aces in Cain and Gallardo on the mound likely cancelling eachother out in most bettor's minds, it comes down to offense; and Milwaukee most certainly has the edge in that department. That said, I see a pitcher that has been pitching brilliantly and that has seen the Giants win in 9 straight trips to the mound; and in a likely pitcher's duel where it could all come down to one mistake pitch, +145 seems way too good to pass on.

Pick 4: Los Angeles Angels -138 over Arizona Diamondbacks

An extremely lopsided pitching matchup, this line is actually lower than where it should be in my estimation due to the recent surge in the D'Back's bats. Weaver should quiet them down a little tonight, and the Angel bats should do fine against Buckner.

    Good Luck!

          A few comments:

Yankees bats are on fire right now. They will score more runs than the depleted Mets.

The Braves will not lose 3 games in a row at home especially with their best pitcher on the mound. Braves didn't use their best two relievers the last 2 games and they will shut out the Red Sox tonight in hot and humid weather.

Giants are horrible on the road and they are facing the best pitcher in NL right now. Don't like their chances against Gallardo.

Jays are a nice play the way Romero is pitching! Texas looks great bit that is a LOT of chalk!

              Good luck Beast!

I disagree with picks 3 and 4. I also decided not to touch the Boston/Atlanta game. my picks are:

                Tampa Bay Rays -144
                New York Mets +155
                Pittsburgh Pirates +119
Kansas City Royals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates Under 8½ (EVEN)

8-0 lead early, but the way this season has gone, no lead is safe

Damn Yanks dropped the 4-spot on Pelfrey in the 2nd, he's been great otherwise. He did about what I expected him to though, credit Sabathia for finding his old form.

Boston grabs the win. Looking like a 2-2, +0.00 unit day for me barring no comebacks.

Sad that the way this year has gone for me that a 0.00 unit day is a good one, huh?

Trying to stop your bleeding. Unless you are proud of -11.78 units. You are getting close to CrazyLou territory. Are you proud?

You've got bigger problems than -11.78 units if that comment upsets you.

Keep posting your plays though, someone is fading and profiting.

Oh I'm not proud of it at all, but I'm still trying my best and trying to turn that around. I don't understand how rubbing someone's losses in their face is cool at all, whether the person is winning or losing on the season. How is making fun of someone's losses "stopping the bleeding"?

I mean I understand its fun or whatever to talk shit and to make fun of me for having a shitty season, go ahead. I just don't know what you gain by rubbing losing picks in my face. It isn't like I'm guaranteeing victories or claiming that I got the best line or being unapologetic for losing or anything.

I didn't make fun of your picks. Read my first post in this thread. Maybe if you did you would know why you can't pick a winner. It seems like you don't like to learn from other cappers so you will always be in the red.

Definitely good calls on your part. Congrats! And I'm not being sarcastic, either, I hope you won big yesterday (and do so today as well).

The thing is, I don't think that disagreeing with my picks makes it cool to rub it in when they lose. I mean again, you can go ahead, I just don't get it. If it is an "I told you so" you were looking for, like I said, congratulations, you were right and I was wrong.

My thing is, if someone posts up a pick that I disagree with, I'll totally post on why I disagree with it, and I'm glad you shared your feedback. What I won't do is when their pick is losing by 4 runs late in the game sarcastically rub it in on them saying "Hey, GREAT PICK there buddy! " Just think that's a little low, personally.
