The blood that runs through these veins is 100% German , but i am reluctant to jump for joy at the selections made by coach Loew. Why take 3 goalies , and not include a world class player like Sane in the squad ? If you are going to go with only 3 forwards , why do you include Mario Gomez ( 32 and injured for big gaps this year ) ? The good news is that our midfield is stacked full of talent. The other bad news is that our back 4 is a revolving door lately with only Hummels as a regular fixture. Second and third is really up to how Mexico choose to approach this group. Do they play their defensive system against Sweden as well ? It could well end up as a nil to nil draw and start to put pressure on goal tallies in the South Korea games ( I am liking every over 2.5 that they play ).

Appreciate it. If it wasn't today it would have been sooner then later.

We just weren't good enough to compete at the next level.

Teams like Brazil , Belgium and England seem to be gaining momentum. Tomorrows game should be a good indicator.

Poland have no real pressure tomorrow. The tournament has been a disappointment for a team that had so much hope of making a real splash here. Still , they have some players who can find the net too. Japan are in a position to advance and playing defense has never really been the stamp of this team. 2 - 2 vs Senegal and a 2 - 1 win against 10 man Colombia , show exactly how they play this game. I really love this over at such a generous price.

Its " Crunch time " . Colombia are a very deep team that have a good nucleus of players who have been in the program for a while now. Players that know how to rise to the occasion and produce when it is needed most. Colombia need to win against Senegal , just as they did against Poland , and i see no reason to doubt them here.

Hey Franz: Solid thread. But will say this. When you post plays and others are posting plays in same sport it is inevitable that there will be some sort of competition between them. Especially for those looking to tail winners. GL today.

And the trolling that sometimes goes on is BS imo.

Hey , if someone feels its a competition for them , whatever floats your boat. Maybe it helps to motivate them. All i am saying is that i hope every poster makes money wagering on The Beautiful game. I am merely trying to put some extra cash into my online accounts. There is no competition in my eyes.

I think so, too, Franz. Will be interesting to see how it plays out. There's also this element of:
* England's card-accumulation.
* Motivation for seeding.

It seems like the two teams are comfortable coming thru as 1st OR 2nd. Still plenty of attacking options. Games like this USUALLY open wide-up, b/c there won't be many hard tackles.

I think its because they dont want to wind up on the other side of the bracket with Spain, France, Croatia, Denmark, Portugal, Uruguay, Argentina....etc.

At this stage , you better bring your " A " game against all competition and prey that you get to live another day. Any team that starts to look ahead will be on the beach early next week.

Its the Knockout stage , and its where they seperate the contenders from the pretenders. I admire the work rate that this Japanese team has , but depth is just not at the same level as Belgium's. Todays game against Poland was a very good example of happens when you are so reliant on a small core of players ( Haraguchi , Osaka , Kagawa ...). They tend to burnt out since every game was a dire situation in order to qualify. Belgium used todays game against England as a " kickabout " and rested several key players like Hazard , Lukaku , Mertens...
I mean no disrespect to the great effort that Japan has put in to get to this game , but it will take its toll and show against a much better side with BIG aspirations imo.
