What is with all these new people with plain avatars

Are they all the same people?

The avatars are just an outline of a face and its gray, i've seen at least 5 people within the past 2 days that are new and have the gay avatar

I think it's the default setting where there are no avatars.... Someone else posted requesting them all to get pics so they werent confused anymore about who was who...
