#7May he RIP
For me personally it won't be more historic than Ed McMahon's death or even Farrah Fawcett. Who by all accounts were good people and not freaks who molested little boys. I felt sorry for Michael actually and never saw the appeal. To each his own I guess. I could never listen to his music, thinking who actually wrote and was singing it.Comment -

#11farrah's gotta be feeling bad from heaven. boy did she die on the wrong day.. MJ is stealing all the attention and everyone don't even care about farrah now.. poor girl.
btw, If Obama gets shot tomorrow, i think it will be bigger than MJ's death.
OR
If they capture Osama and they bring him to the U.S. and we see him here.. this will kill MJ's death by a mile.
IF Oprah dies, it will be bigger.
IF George Clooney dies, it will be bigger.Comment -

Agreed... on all except Clooney. Michael had 100x the impact of Clooney.
I think this would be EVEN BIGGER, had the accusations not been there. A large part of the population tuned him out years ago. It's still the BIGGEST news story of the year, or maybe since 9-11 but imagine had Michael not had any legal problems-- then the outpouring would be from everyone, everywhere.
Whether or not you believe MJ was innocent, you can't deny the impact he had on many generations growing up from the late 60s to early 90s.
The names that I'll add that could possibly be an even bigger story would be Ali, Jordan or Tiger.
Then again, entertainment reaches far beyond sports, but I thought I'd contribute to this and say who could possibly be more of a shock/bigger news story.
Still crazy to think about. The guy was only 50. You expect celebs with private doctors to make sure they do whatever they can to live as long as they can...

#23ridiculous,
I haven't listened to any of his music since the 80's and I still know he's way bigger than any of the other names mentioned. Not only was he the biggest icon of pop culture but he actually had enormous talent. Whatever accusations against him make no difference.bird bird da bird's da wordComment -

#24This Will Go Down As One Of Most Historic Days In Last 50 YearsYeah, maybe for those that have no idea how to set their priorities in life. It's one thing to be saddened by the death of a popular celebrity. But tell me, just how much has the world suffered without Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Kurt Cobain and now Michael Jackson? The only thing that can make this a historic day is if enough sheep truly believe it's a history-changing event.

the joy and overall good feeling these 4 men have brought to the world with their music far exceeds anything that a bunch of gamblers (sports bettors, poker players, what have you) could ever bring
i'm sure ppl will really care when the phil hellmuths or billy walters of the world pass away
great musicians = treasures
great gamblers = waste of human spaceComment -

#27Can't really argue with you hoopster, but then again I never claimed that the world would miss poker players or gamblers. I will, however, stop short of calling four dead drug abusers "treasures," regardless of their musical contributions.Comment -
