So fans don't have to stand for the anthem, but the players do? So if me, as a regular joe, decides to sit for the anthem while its being played for whatever reason, that's OK, but if a player on the field kneels it's not OK?

The difference is, nobody called Tebow un-American for kneeling because of his faith. Something he believes strongly in, fine.
Kaepernick is now un-American because he kneeled, because of something he also believed strongly in. But Kap happened to do it during the national anthem, which all of a sudden is the ultimate display of patriotism.
What am I missing?

I can get home at 4am with a house full of people and I don't need to walk quietly as to not wake anyone. But I do. Respect for others. I could sing AC/DC or play my drum-set also. Maybe the sax. But I don't because I have respect. I can decide that 4am is the perfect time to wake everyone up to tell them how disgusted the price of gasoline. But I don't because of .......

So if I'm a paying spectator in the stands and I decide to jerk off during the national anthem, that's cool? I can just do whatever I want, as an American, while it's going on?
But if you're also an American, but an employee of the team and you want to kneel to show support to those dealing with a major social injustice, not cool?
Is that player less of an American than me, jerking off in my seat while the anthem is being played? Should that player be deported?

The players are playing under a labor contract and don't have to do anything that is not specifically spelled out in that contract...
Do you guys understand what a labor contract is
The NBA players stand because it was negotiated into their contract and they accepted it

You do not appear to be a protesting type of guy. I know that I'm not... But, if you were to protest, when would be the right time for you??? Would you really care what other people told you about when and where you should conduct said protest?

So blame the media. What about respecting the person that chooses not to stand?
I like listening to anthems. I like hearing singers sing it but I don't stand up in my living room with my hand over my heart, sobbing USA. I will always stand and salute the flag when it's played in public, but I don't care if someone is sitting or kneeling next to me. I don't consider myself any more patriotic than anyone else. The same way someone may kneel to pray, another may stand on their head and pray. It's not my place to criticize someone else. I've taught my kids and they know and act as i instructed them. Most people do not put their hands on their heart because they do not know. I will instruct friends and family but I'm not going to get pissy if they don't comply, so what. When I broke my leg, I couldn't stand and put my hand on my heart at the same time. Am I supposed to catch shit?
The NFL has really fukked up here. Goodell is to blame. This was a non issue until the media blew it up. He could have easily nipped in the bud but he's an idiot.

Exactly.. It's disrespectful watching half a team on the field kneel and protest during the Anthem for patriotic Americans that hold the Anthem sacred...
Hard for you to understand that because you aren't patriotic.. So it falls on deaf ears...

What about the group of guys behind me talking, eating, drinking, yucking it up while the anthem is going on? I've seen this many times at sporting events. What about the literally millions of people at home watching the anthem before the Super Bowl sitting on their couch? OK for them to do that?

That wouldn't be my first choice either but if I played football, I might think differently? One day, I might protest these damn property taxes. My neighbor's taxes are more than their mortgage was 30 years ago. Seriously, What do you think would be the best venue? Probably city hall?

Jibbby - when did standing during the anthem become a sign of Patriotism? Examples please? I cannot recall hearing the anthem so damn much until sporting events starting inundating us with them. I use to hear the pledge of allegiance much more than the anthem.
Seriously, please show me pictures or videos of thousands of people in solidarity standing for our national anthem outside of these sporting events??? This shit is all overblown. It has zero to do with Patriotism. It's all about $$$$.

You realize many of those guys (and you may be one of them) are the same people criticizing the players for taking a stand and kneeling to protest racial equality in this country... how can someone who doesn't take the anthem seriously when they hear it then all of a sudden accuse players who want to kneel of being un-American?
