Odesnik was actually injured and it wasn't well known going into the match, but it spread like wild fire once punters got a clue. I actually think Betfair does more harm than good with their constant reports anytime something seems 'irregular', at least to public opinion of the integrity of the sport. I understand they're licensed and regulated and want to appear squeaky clean, but can you imagine if any other shop did the same thing about say American football?

Whilst that's true in this case they are actually good for the policing of all sports. They have a security dept now that does nothing but follow betting patterns and the worst place to place money on a crooked event would be Betfair. Their success rate is pretty good too, there have been quite a few court cases in England that have banned jockeys and trainers from the racetrack purely on the evidence they had from Betfair where the people concerned were laying their horses to lose.
Whilst I agree its not good for tennis to have its name dragged through the mud, it's inevitably going to happen from time to time when there is a legitimate explanation for betting patterns and in my opinion is a price worth paying for the greater good.
We also don't know the people concerned with the bets and if it it turned out it was the same people whos names crop up time after time it would explain the publicity.

Obviously from time to time they will get it wrong but I like the fact they're chasing this down. What's the point of seeing a tennis player who should be 4-1 trading at 6-1, only to find out the Russian mob are involved and your money has gone on the back of a non-trier. To be honest, history shows tennis is one of the major sports that has suffered crooked matches due to the Eastern European Mob, that's probably why tennis is on their radar more than most other sports.
