How will you find the answer if you don’t look at every possible scenario?

    Everything needs dissected and analyzed

    I don’t think that’s being “classless”

If nothing else it’s the only thing most can do without going to the area to physically help search

We are all hoping for the best and sending positive thoughts

I've researched and read about plenty of stories of people vanishing without a trace (Maura Murray, Jennifer Kesse, Brian Shaffer etc.) where there are no answers. Praying he is found soon and he just wanted time away.

I hope he does not end up as the latest strange disappearance in our National Parks. Anyone not aware of the Missing 411 series should look into it and be shocked at the regularity this happens and some of the extremely strange circumstances surrounding these missing people. Mt Charleston happens to be a location in the western US that these strange events take place going back to the 60s.

Missing-411 is the first comprehensive research about people who have disappeared in the wilds of North America. It’s understood that people routinely get lost and some want to disappear, but this story is about the unusual. Nobody has ever studied the archives for similarities, traits and geographical clusters of missing people, until now.

A tip from a national park ranger led to this 4+ years and a 9000 hour investigative effort into understanding the stories behind people who have vanished. The book chronicles children, adults and the elderly who disappeared, sometimes in the presence of friends and relatives. As Search and Rescue personnel exhaust leads and places to search, relatives start to believe kidnappings and abductions have occurred. The belief by the relatives is not an isolated occurrence; it replicates itself time after time, case after case across North America.

The research depicts 28 clusters of missing people across the continent, something that has never been exposed and was a shocking find to researchers. Topography does play a part into the age of the victims and certain clusters have specific age and sex consistency that is baffling. This is not a phenomenon that has been occurring in just the last few decades, clusters of missing people have been identified as far back as the 1800’s.

The manuscript for the research was extremely large so the story was split between two books, Missing 411 Western United States and Canada and Missing 411 Eastern United States. The Eastern version will be released in late March and will include a list of all missing people in each edition and a concluding chapter that draws both books together for conclusions.

Some of the issues that are discussed in each edition:
            • The National Park Service attitude toward missing people
            • How specific factors in certain cases replicate themselves in different clusters
            • Exposing cases involving missing children that aren’t on any national database
            • Unusual behavior by bloodhounds/canines involved in the search process
            • How storms, berries, swamps, briar patches, boulder fields and victim disabilities play a role in the disappearance
            • The strategies of Search and Rescue personnel need to change under specific circumstances

Joe Rogan was talking about this in a podcast recently and it’s what I thought of when I read this thread.

            Positive thoughts for Dave.

Hope he is found soon and comes home safe.

Somebody like Dave who wanted "time away" wouldn't do it by leaving his family and friends in the dark, left only to search some remote mountainside. Dave is a well traveled man who enjoys the fine things in life, and has the resources for any kind of getaway he'd want, but he wouldn't do it in a way that would cause this kind of worry for the people he cares about.
Dave is a keen observer of the human condition, and whether his time in this world ends this way, or many years down the road, his ultimate legacy will not be handicapping methods, or wins and losses, but the lessons he has passed on in how to learn about people through observation. It's highly ironic that his disappearance has been so illuminating in that regard in this thread.

Yep, something definitely happened. Best guesses are - a fall or less likely, got off the trail and lost, mountain lion, met wrong human.

This far out is bad because if Dave was conscious, he (and search party people) could yell and the sound would travel. Still hopeful!

I use to sometimes hike by myself BUT I always made a journey management plan on where I was exactly each day. That was when I was young and invincible. Now, I definitely agree, you should always have a companion or at least someone to pick you up on the other side. Hopefully, he's holed up in a nice warm safe space. Praying...

Sad people think a couple of things:

1 - we are making up Dave's disappearance

2 - people accused me of being involved in it

I appreciate peterosehof and others for coming to my defense. People wanting to speculate about what happened to him should create their own conspiracy thread. Those of us who know Dave well can confirm he wasn't depressed or in debt and contemplating ending his own life. I've never met a person with more zest for life than him. The guy woke up about 4am every day because he loved handicapping games, writing Point Blank and responding to forum posts. How many people would take the time to reply to strangers' posts six days a week? Hardly any, but Dave is different. He loves the sports betting community. He loves beating the book. He loves good food. He loves craft beer. As I said in my original post, he's the most interesting man in the world. To hell with the haters. He's a great man and only God knows what's happened to him since 3pm Saturday. Until we know, we give thanks for his graciousness and wisdom and pray for his comeback.

Thanks Shawn for coming on our forum and expressing some wonderful insights and kind thoughts about Dave and what he's meant to those of us in the gambling community, who've followed his posts and listened to his podcasts. You'll have to excuse the few ignorant dumb asses on here with their stupid conspiracy therories and personal attacks on you and a man's charcter they obviously don't have a fuking clue about.

A vast majority of us agree and align with you one hundred percent and appreciate your accurate description of Dave as a friend who loves life and is a respected member of our community. We're gonna continue to stay positive and hope for the best outcome, his safe return.

I just can't believe he hasn't been found yet? This is really sad. Are there a lot tree there or things that would hide him if he fell?

Not saying this is the case, and I am saddened he is missing whatever the reason, I sure hope some clues turn up.

In fact, there are a lot of people that call it Gofraudme. Hope this isn't the case but we need to check up on this and if it is a fraud, contact the folks at Gofund me where they in turn contact law enforcement.
