So in reading Shawn's post, Dave does have his iphone and usually sends out updates. Let's hope he's in an area where maybe there is no service, or it's possible his phone is damaged or out of power. Or maybe, as Shawn stated, he went off the grid for more than one or two days. Sounds like he's an experienced hiker and familiar with Mount Charleston, hoping for the best outcome and he makes contact with search and rescue soon.

The idea of all of this is very sad and scary. We can only hope that his experience climbing has provided him with enough tools to stay safe.

From what SKrallyman said above he goes on solo hikes. That's what I think people are holding on to hope with... he knows this mountain and is experienced at going alone so hopefully he's just bunkered down somewhere at the moment.

It doesn’t matter how experienced you are...you should never hike without a companion. Hopefully he is found alive but a Hugh mistake on his part.

Trust me, I don't even like going fishing without someone and half the time I'm at some damn pond. But I do understand how for some people this could be a lovely form of relaxation and a chance to clear one's head. This is from someone on Twitter who seems to know him so fingers crossed he found one of those safe places and is back on here posting soon

What I worry about here is other health issues occurring during the hike. That and a fall. If he’s an experienced outdoorsman, he can survive on his own for a while.

I know it can be annoying when someone says this in these type of
situations , but I truly wish there was more we could do to help.
Im just hoping the people searching give it there every last ounce of
energy and create a fail proof tactical approach to cover every inch of ground
as fast as humanly possible .
Im too stupid to know if there are animals there that could attack
because if he has a way to stay warm and no wildlife has got him
then without a shadow of doubt he is still alive at this moment

He was only hiking , not full blown climbing /scaling the mountain to the top
Hope he packed something to stay warm , food you can go 21 days without
water around 3/4 depending on how hot or how much energy you are expending
I’m sure he at least brought water with him being a meticulous mind he is
You can tell he thinks things through just by reading his sports articles
