Its such great story it would be amazing if he could win this thing. The guy went from the best in the world to not being able to make a cut. Its great to see his game is coming back....the guy was amazing back in the day when he was hitting the ball well.

he is done now, but i am glad to see him playing decent for a change. my very best friend was a freshman player at ga tech. when Duval was a senior. i wont say that i got to hang out with the guy much, because nobody hung out with him, but i was in atlanta every few weeks teaching my buddy and another kid on the team and i do have a few interesting stories about the guy.
he was, by far, the most eccentric asshole prick cocksucker i had ever met in the first 21 years of my life. he truly thought that because he was the best golfer in college, that he was the best person that walked the face of the earth. never seen a guy with his nose so far in the air and really though his shit didnt stink. he never did anything with anyone on the team and he had few friends. he was, however, the biggest fukking crybaby who begged for attention from anyone when he felt he needed it.
the guy had the strangest practice routines too. the team had a few places to play and practice and usually did this together as a team, but it didnt matter to him. he had a few spots around the courses where he went off to practice by himself. just seemed like a loner. he always hit his own golf balls and he only practiced with an 8-iron and sand wedge. i talked to him about this one day and he said he didnt need to hit other clubs as much(understandable, i know other tour pros who do the same thing) and that he thought it hurt his game to practice next to the other guys. he felt it would leave bad images in his head if he saw people, who werent as good as him, hit balls. when i told him to just not pay any attention to the other guys, he just said he didnt care and that they were lucky enough to have him on the team, nobody would make him practice with them. i told you, this kid was a fukking prick.
the golf teams play room (couches, tv, pool table, video games etc) was located in and endzone of bobby dodd stadium and all the guys would go hangout in there at halftime of the games...everyone except him. he would either go in there well before halftime or go in during the 3rd quarter. he would always joke and say "i cant be seen with you guys" but everyone knew he was really being serious. then he would hang out by the door cus there were always camera guys down there.
the funniest story about him was when sports psychologist Dr. Bob Rotella came to campus to see the team. they were in a funk and Puggy(coach) couldnt get a grasp on things. Rotella said the team wasnt a team at all and that they had too many egotistical individuals with chips on their shoulders (no shit, my buddy had won a tourney as a freshman and they had Duval and Cink on the team) anyways, Bob made each player stand up and point out the people they liked and ones they didnt. every person on the team went around...i like you, i dislike you, i like you, i dislike you etc.... when each got around to Duval, they didnt say i dislike you, they said "i hate you". hahah . those guys couldnt fukking stand him
my buddy lived with jack nicklaus's son mike. mike wasnt really that great of a golfer. he could play, but wasnt good enough to make the travel team. Jack donated money and well, you know...some thought it kept him on the team. so Duval always went out of his way to tell him why he thought he was on the team. the guy was just a cockbag with a smartass mouth. years later when Duval was a top player in the world and Mike was running things at Nicklaus Golf, he would go out of his way to let Mike know how shitty the equipment was and told him to never expect a top player to play with that "Nicklaus shit" . just unnecessary garbage
i could go on and on about how weird and uppity this cat was, but my fingers are tired now. there were rumors that some bitch just totally destroying him with verbal abuse about his body and cheating on him and thats why he went on his strenuous workout dealio and lost all that weight, but he would never admit something like that. it took the guy getting vertigo and getting really sick and missing a billion cuts to bring him back down to earth. he has since been really really humble and much more outgoing from what i hear. i saw him last year during an annual Stewart Cink deal at tech and he was super nice. said he remembered me and asked me how teaching and stuff was. ( i was an authorized golf machine instructor way back when he was in college) said he didnt really gamble much cus he was horrible at it...so i made sure he had all my numbers
i really hope he does well in the future. im glad he is a different person now cus someone might have killed him if he was the same prick he was before he got sick.Comment -
