    Betmania and steam play
What exactly is a "steam play". I can't understand what this guy did wrong.

Louis, I’m bumping a thread on “Sharp Players” that I think is relevant to your query.

Good work SBR ... Some of these books make me laugh.

BetMania (SBR rating C+) reinstates original pending wager.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      12.16.2006 (11:56 AM CST)
BetMania (SBR rating C+) cancels player’s pending wager on the Suns/Kings Under 219, stating that the bet was on a "steam play." Below is the message left in the user’s account.

"Please read this important message: Your Suns Total bet was deleted...obvious steam play. If you continue to bet Steam here your account will be closed"

http://www.sbrodds.com/ shows the average betting line is currently set between 217 and 218. Line history quotes the market average at 219 only 15 minutes ago. BetMania is expected to honor this bet and not use subjective terms to get out of honoring betting odds that hold value for the bettor. Players should expect a confirmed bet to stand unless it is due to an "obvious", or "gross," error.

Everyone should avoid Betmania in my opinion

TLD, I read the thread and have a better idea of what "steam" is.

This is a legitimate strategy by a player to watch line movements, and help move the line at books that are slow to do so. Sportsbooks have to be responsible for their software and lines. There is absolutely no excuse for a sportsbook to cancel a bet because they were slow to move their line.

I would completely avoid betmania. They have a history of cancelling bets not just "steam" but "duplicate parlays" as well.

I agree with Louis. If a book is gonna bitch about slow lines, then they should learn how to move their lines quickly and keep up with the pace. Pinnacle, CRIS, Skybook and Greek all move their lines quickly. The shit books like Betmania should learn from these books and pay attention to their lines instead of staring at pictures of the BetMania babes all day. If you can't run a book, then don't run a book.

Indeed. Any book moaning about people playing steam should employ people who can move their lines quicker. If you want to service your business via the internet then you need the right people to make it efficient.

This wasn't a steam play. This was Betmania asleep for an hour. If you're going to deal decent limits, you have to pay attention to the screen. Their number was stale BEFORE the steam hit. It was just sloppy that they didn't move it after the steam. This wasn't a "30-second" error (although that still wouldn't be a fair reason to delete a bet).
