I just drove a friend to the airport. He stops off at a local pharmacy to pick up some Claritin D for his allergies. Every time he goes there he has to get his driver's license scanned, because you could only buy so much in a certain time frame. I ended up having to use my license since he bought some three weeks ago.

The girl behind the counter was telling us, the reason they do that is because you can make something else out of Clairtin D., but she doesn't know what it is.

Anyone have an idea what that is???

I think it would be crystal meth.

I believe the ingredient that guys isolate is pseudoephedrine.

It's available on shelves here. I take the stuff daily during the summer months. Not sure why Canada is more lax with pseudoephedrine.

Determined drug users are finding loopholes in new laws designed to combat meth, and they're calling it smurfing. Doctor Tracy Wimbush has more on smurfing
Smurfing, it's the new street term meth makers are using to describe shopping from store to store, buying small quantities of pseudoephedrine until they have enough to manufacture the meth.
Congress and 39 states including Texas and Oklahoma have passed laws restricting the sale of cold medications containing pseudoephedrine. The laws limit the amount of medicine that individuals can buy and require a pharmacist to check i.d and keep records of pseudoephrine purchases. But you may be suprised at what happens with those purchase records.
Pharmacist Jana Bennett said, "Nothing, it just stays here. I guess techniquely if the DEA ever wanted to come check who has been buying all of it they could come see our records. But it doesn't go into any bid database. It just stays right here."
Lt. Mike Eppler said, "At this point, unless somebody starts recognizing them enough, it's going to be a difficult thing."
Until there is a central data bank for pseudoephrine purchase, Lt. Eppler is encouraging pharmacy workers to keep an eye out for suspicious or frequent buyers.

Not sure, it's supposed to be aspirin with a bit of codeine in it. Will check next time I stop at the drugstore.

Exactly. 222's (two twenty-two's) are ASA (acetylsalicylic acid - which is aspirin), codeine and caffeine.

They are the counterpart of Tylenol 1's which have acetaminophen instead of ASA.

You can get tabs with up to 8 ** codeine over the counter without a prescription.

Some efforts have been made at times to start requesting information from people buying them but as far as I have heard, it hasn't caught on.
