#4you need to be in the inside to make money. small guys think it is easy money is no different than recreational gamblers. even people with MIT phd might not be profitbale in the market in the long term.

dollar cost averaging
gambling and the market are not that much different. if you can't fix the games or don't have inside info, it is very hard to make money.Comment -

Yeah, that's a little like chasing in betting. Keep taking the same team for more and more $.Comment -

#8Market is up 30% since March 10th. A brainless monkey could have made money since then.Comment -

#9^^^not really chasing. but the fundamental assumption these money managers use is that the market is going to have more ups than downs. if you use dollar cost averaging in nikkei from 1980-1990, you'll still be in the hole.Comment -

I think we see another pretty significant dip in the market this summer, but we should have a slow but sustained rally for the end of 09 through 10.....Comment -

I think that the market is really tired from its rally since march, but the Fed and Treasury keep proping up the markets so any pull back will be lite. There will be a retrace, actually I think the market will tank just like last year al the way down to around 5000 before the end of the year. I want to short the market, but I will advise against it until the financial props from the FED and Treasury are over. So for everyone please, these are dangerous times in the market, especially for all you 401K people. When the XLF price starts to fall, and / or IWM dips below the 200 day moving average WITH volume, that will be your signal to get the ef out. I only see a roller coaster from then on and most of it is down.
If you really think that things are getting better, ponder this shit.
1. Credit card defaults are on the rise still.
2. Unemployment (officially) will go over 10%, that really means it will be around 20%.
3. No body is talking about the comercial property defaults that have just begun to start hitting the books.
4. Look at all the money being printed, can you say hyperinflation?
5. Because of all the money being printed, China will demand more interest on our government bonds, causing an increased interest rate, which will kill any housing recovery.
The market rally from March is all fake. It is a ploy to get the retail investor in, while the pro gets out. Don't fall for it, as soon as Wall Street figures out that there will be no earnings to go with the higher stock prices, the market will tak again. Of course I will be there shorting all the way down to the bottom where I live.Comment -

#15Not only do I buy low and sell high, but I like even better to sell high and buy low. Things go down quicker than they go up, at least that is what I tell them hookers down by the river.Comment -

Because of my sports gambling capping that requires plenty of time I don't short stocks but I agree with RageW that you can make more money shorting. It's just I don't like my intestines being chewed up while I do that.Comment -
