If you would listen closely to what the vast majority of people are saying you'd know that the goal is not to take away guns or gun owner rights, but rather to ban assault rifles. But the NRA, as is their tradition, never ever budges one inch. There is never a possibility of negotiation. It's like being married to a nightmare of a wife (or husband, for Shari and Mayela).

There were no assault weapons when the second amendment was written. We don't get to have grenades, bazookas, and napalm--why can't we ban assault rifles too so that the next time some crazy jackass wants to shoot up a crowd, he'll be limited in how much carnage he can produce? It's called the NRA, not the NARA.

The NRA would become more respected by the masses and membership would actually go up if only they would occasionally show signs of being reasonable. But to them, sensibility is a weakness.

They don't budge because of the slipperly slope. Years ago it was legislated that you need to be 21 to buy a handgun, and now it is being discussed 21 should be the age for any guns. Nobody can site any stats that prove this achieves what was intended.

THAT is why there is no budging one inch. 2nd amendment says we have this right... not after a bunch of qualifiers.

The NRA is not some benevelent Constitution-defending organization. They're the lobbying arm for the gun manufacturers. They speak tirelessly about the 2nd Amendment, but their goal is similar to everyone else's--it's to make money (at any cost).

Why are you paying membership fees ? If owning guns is a gift from god ( ), who the fcuk is Wayne Lapierre, god's CFO ? The indoor range I shoot at is free if your a NRA member, and I tend to shoot weekly so the membership fee is well worth it, or Id be paying $10 an hour to shoot inside. There is also a discount at the outdoor range I go to but its rifles only. Most gun shops give discounts on weapons/ammo as well, Im not talking about Bass Pro Shop or chains like that, but small privately owned shops, might get you 10-15% off a weapon you want.

I'm one of those gun owning liberals, owned a gun since 8 years old, used guns in the service, still own 4. The NRA has slowly been co-opted over the last two decades and has become insane. They used to be about education and safety and even reasonable gun control. There was an underlying racial component, but it was never a huge in your face thing that I remember. Now, they're absolutely insane. A lot of gun manufacturers (Spikes Tactical) and gun stores are just as bad.
