Maybe I should check into membership... but honestly I don't trust the government, and finding my name on that list theoretically offers more exposure than opportunity. The USA has been moving towards more tyrannical for decades, and I have no reason to believe that will change any time soon.

I used to be a registered GOP voter, but I changed to Independent for that reason, as well as the RINO/BUSH era turned me off. The IRS has shown me I made the correct move there.

I respect your right to be an NRA member and I also respect your right to own however many firearms you are legally allowed to. (I obviously have no clue.)

But as a parent I can say that I'm also extremely happy that the chances of a school shooting happening where I live is very slim. Would I love to have a gun to blow the head off a b who tried to break into my house? Yes. Would I love for someone to have a gun who thinks that shooting up dozens of people in a friggen school is ok? No. I'll take my chances and stick with a baseball bat and a cricket bat.

It's estimated that well less than 5% of the population belong to the NRA.

If you would listen closely to what the vast majority of people are saying you'd know that the goal is not to take away guns or gun owner rights, but rather to ban assault rifles. But the NRA, as is their tradition, never ever budges one inch. There is never a possibility of negotiation. It's like being married to a nightmare of a wife (or husband, for Shari and Mayela).

There were no assault weapons when the second amendment was written. We don't get to have grenades, bazookas, and napalm--why can't we ban assault rifles too so that the next time some crazy jackass wants to shoot up a crowd, he'll be limited in how much carnage he can produce? It's called the NRA, not the NARA.

The NRA would become more respected by the masses and membership would actually go up if only they would occasionally show signs of being reasonable. But to them, sensibility is a weakness.
