Our Baseball field is called " Eddie Mathews Field " It's pretty cool when you drive by it to see that. I used to drink with him at a bar here called " Dons" he was an alcoholic and was there daily.. pretty sad what he ended up to be in his life, but hell of a player.

Talk about name dropper city here.

We have a number one media guy here in Minnesota named Sid Hartman that's with the Minneapolis Star Tribune and WCCO radio that's 90 or so and has been around forever. He was one of the founders and the first GM of the Minneapolis Lakers-LA Lakers. The guy indeed does know anybody and everybody in sports but he has this tendancy of calling all people in sports mentioned in any setting his close personal friend. The trend was picked up by everyone in the media and it became a buzzline in Minnesota where old Sid started feeling embarrassed about being a name dropper.I have a hunch if I google or wikipedia Sid it will bring that up.Everytime someone hears anyone talking about someone famous they know, the other person listening goes into the Sid routine joking about that person being a name dropper like Sid.He's got this really unique voice where everyone has to try to impersonate him saying,my very close personal friend.

Herb Brooks was always here in town being with guys he coached and he was at the bar up the street from me,went to sleep at his friends house in town till morning and a few hours later fell asleep on his way home to the twin cities and got killed on the highway.

For what it's worth, about 10 ex old time NHL players that no one ever heard of because they played so long ago had either tiny careers or a couple that had decent careers went to school where I'm from.Bernie Kukar a long time NFL ref that was the head ref in 3 super bowls and is now retired went school here.I went to school with Mark Pavelich who was on the 80 miracle on ice hockey team who played for the Rangers.Frank Brimsek nicknamed Mr. Zero who was a star NHL goalie that's even in the NHL Canadian hall of fame and not just the cheesey american hockey hall of fame near my house went to school here. The guy would have been close to 100 now.

Graduated with Stevie Wonder's kids and many Yankees lived in the town when they played there.
