Norway scored 2 goals, gave up 11, didn't win a match and, I thought, only had local players with no stars.

Books have given this Slovenian team ZERO respect since the start.

I "think" the reason this team has been rated so poorly by odds makers might be due to have a really low IIHF rank of 15th in world (in a comp top 8 get to play) and Norway is ranked 8th.

Anyway, pulled the trigger now, so lets hope I haven't jumped in a trap

Dont want to talk you into anything Chucky. But just having a look at both records in their 3 group games should be enough to help you understand the surprise over the odds.

Reason I pegged them as under valued to start with was only losing Kopitar due to NHL greed fest, whilst always having about 25% of the squad drawn from KHL anyway. Most other teams were more badly affected and had to draft in KHL players that weren't previously good enough to make the national squad.

Think Norway only had 1 KHL player to bring in and the rest had to come from local league or lower level Euro leagues.


Pinny odds down to +200 and PK +131 now.

And seems to be off the board other books I use. +125 at one Aussie book with it still up.



Just weird all around so probably still something I am missing.

I searched everywhere as well looking for news on if they lost any players, etc. I've watched all of the Slovenia games and they played really well against much better teams. Haven't seen Norway play, but Slovenia is scrappy and their goalie decent. The only info I could find was the IIHF ranking as Optional mentioned.

Really does feel like the books know something we don't.

The line dropped to +150 overnight.

I'll give it a go with 2 units.

I watched that loss against Russia and Russia is by far and away the best team in the Olympics. The Russians played a great game against Slovenia and Slovenia never quit. I have no problem taking Slovenia.

Yeah, the thread was actually inspired by the bad format.

Was obvious the top seeded group finisher was going to get a distinct advantage through knock out stages.

I expected Canada or Czech to grab that seeding with their group draw.... but Sweden won top seed and ended up with the dream draw to finals. Whilst Czechs will have to face Russia in the semi now.

Czech team has maybe 12 topline KHL players and USA is playing with rejects from europe leagues who were not good enough to be signed even to play for a feeder NHL team club and NCAA players.

It will be a miracle on ice moment just to get passed Czechs to face Russia in semi this time.


But dont get me wrong, I'd be happy to watch USA pull off the miracle if they can do it.
