Very Sad News, Fernando BetPhoenix has passed away....
Hell of a lines man and a better person. I had the pleasure meeting him 7 years ago. He will be missed! This is sad news. I heard he passed during a Poker Tournament, Heart Attack.

He will truly be missed. I am very surprised not many posters responded to this. It's sad because I know at least three posters that Fernando helped out with a problem before. He will be missed and my condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

Fernando was the first person I interviewed with SBR. Too bad everyone wasn't as nice and generous with their time. He will be missed. Our prayers are with his family and friends.

Bill, I am shocked at the thread to be honest. I guess there are many new people on SBR that have no clue about him and what he meant to the gambling industry. Anyways, he was a true Mensch.

I (along with a few other guys from BP and SBR) had had dinner with Fernando a few weeks back at The Olive across the park from the CRIS building. I had met him on a couple of occasions in the past but this was the first time we had ever exchanged more than a few words.

He and I were sitting next to one another and I learned that we both grew up in the same neighborhood of Queens (Forest Hills) and that he too was a fan of our fellow Forest Hillians The Ramones.

We had a few interesting if brief conversation that night, both ate the lamb, and shared quite a few glasses of Pinot.

I spent roughly 90 minutes with him that evening and he seemed like quite a stand-up guy. At the end of our dinner we got from the table, shook hands, said our good-byes, and that was the last I saw of him.

                      RIP Fernando.
