I think they should give him the day prior to and the day after his start off and have him DH the rest of the days

I just happened to be changing the channel and saw his pinch hit at bat. It reminded me of you and this thread so I had to bust your balls. I know he is a good player. I just loved the hype early on when he was going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

No worries, I know you were just playing. I think most of his value will come pitching. He's got some arm problems, but while he was out there he had some filthy stuff. Don't be surprised if he's the Cy Young Award winner and MVP next season.

Holy shit. Different topic. I just turned on the MLB network, Pedro Martinez looks really fat. Have you seen him lately?

Los Angeles Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani says he plans to finish this season as the team's designated hitter and hasn't decided yet whether he'll have Tommy John surgery.

The 24-year-old rookie from Japan says he hopes to return as a DH next season. Ohtani was in the lineup as the DH on Friday night against the Chicago White Sox.

The Angels announced Wednesday that an MRI showed Ohtani had new damage in his pitching elbow, and that Tommy John surgery was the recommended course of action. Ohtani, who throws right-handed and bats left-handed, hit two home runs later that night against the Texas Rangers.

If Ohtani has the reconstructive surgery, he almost certainly would not pitch again in the majors until 2020.

Ohtani says swinging the bat doesn't affect his elbow. He said he is looking into every option and hopes to make a decision about surgery toward the end of the season.

Ohtani is hitting .287 with 18 home runs and 47 RBIs. As a pitcher, he's 4-2 with a 3.31 ERA in 10 starts.

Shohei Ohtani has homered in three straight games for the second time in his MLB career (April 3-6). This was also only his second career home run against a left-handed pitcher.

I'm not sure why they're waiting on the surgery though. Might as well get it over with.

Angels GM Billy Eppler said "at some point next week" Shohei Ohtani will face live pitching. Team will bring in "professional" pitchers to face him. Shohei hit BP on field with teammates for first time today. Nine of 33 balls he hit were HRs, one off top of rock formation in CF.

ohtani is gonna turn into another lin-sanity

i know a guy that has a card shop here... he pulled an ohtani card that he was offered $40k for, now it probably isn't even worth $5k

some dummy bought the best ohtani card for $184k even while he was injured

This year's MLB Home Run Derby in Cleveland could be bringing plenty of star power. Not only has young Blue Jays phenom Vladimir Guerrero Jr. reportedly agreed to participate in the event, but Angels star Shohei Ohtani wants to join him.

On Sunday night, the two-way phenom expressed interest in slugging in the Home Run Derby next month. He hasn't been formally invited yet, but he's letting it be known that he wants to compete.

Ohtani, 24, is a two-way sensation on the field, serving as both a pitcher and designated hitter for Los Angeles, and brought a ton of hype when he came over from Japan a few years ago. He's not pitching this season due to Tommy John surgery last fall, but he's still finding success at the plate. After hitting 22 homers in his rookie season last year, Ohtani has nine though 41 games this season.

Those aren't eye-popping power numbers but they should be enough to score him an invite with his name recognition. In fact, Ohtani statline makes a more compelling case than Vladdy Jr.'s (seven homers in 48 games) and will bring some additional international appeal.

It seems like an invite is inevitable now, as one would think that this is pretty much a no-brainer for MLB. Any chance you get to add one of the league's most talented and intriguing players to a marquee event, that's not something you should pass up.
