#39Lmao. Seriously guy? He dominated his era. It retarded to try and play the comparison game to other eras as they all vastly different. to answer your question of course he would have raked in this era, why wouldn't he? Wasn't the mound higher up when he played?Comment -

#44Gotta factor in the diet back then and training.. Ruth got the juice and everything today that these current athletes get who knows? Back in the day it was basically a different game...

against the guys back then that threw like 70-80 mph's on average once a day with a few outliars? in a sport that was looked down upon in most of society?
guys that threw every 4 days and threw complete games even if the lost 12-1
guys from the only 7 other teams that Ruth faced in the entire American League?
in Ruth's first year with the Yanks there were exactly 50 non yankeee pitchers with more than 50 innings pitched that Ruth would have faced.
Or against today's breed with all their advantages and infinitely bigger, trained, specialized, and incentivized talent pool?Comment -

#51This thread went sideways fast.
I am not a huge bases guy, but a story like this, with him hitting 3 HRs already, is exactly what MLB needs.
Stands are ridiculously empty. Owners must have their hands tied. I would be selling day of game tickets at a discount. I guess maybe they worry nobody will pay full price?
Re. the Mikan/West comparison: Mikan would be useless in todays game. West could play in any era against any comp and be highly effective. If it wasn`t for Russell/Red, he would have had 6+ titles. He is the logo for Christs sake.Comment -

When we were kids, we used to skip school, take a bus to a train, a train to Fenway, and pay $4 for a bleacher seat.
HDTV. Cable. Etc. Games are just better from the comfort of our own homes.
Then again, idiots paying 6K to walk around Augusta for 4 days.Comment -

#57Pitchers will figure out some of his tendencies and he will level off. What I do like about his swing is how fluid it is and how fast his hands are. His hand speed reminds me of Tony Gwynn. Not saying he will become the second coming of Tony Gwynn but watch how deep Ohtani lets the ball get before firing those hands.Comment -

#63I would have him in then line up every day . Everybody makes a big deal about a players needing rest . From what ? Most of the players especially outfielders hardly move at all for a 3 hour game. Construction workers work 8 hours every day and dont get days off. What a bunch of pussies OH we work so hard .Comment -
