English clubs may be banned from carrying gambling sponsorship
Maybe Mansion could get a refund. Likely only way they see significant money returned to them.

LONDON: English clubs may be banned from carrying advertisements for online betting companies on their shirts.

British Sports Minister Richard Caborn said Thursday that the government's Gambling Commission will investigate whether such sponsorships are allowed under laws that prohibit the targeting of children by gambling advertisements.

Premier League clubs Blackburn, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Tottenham are all sponsored by Internet betting firms.

"There is a gray area at the moment and the inquiry is to see whether it should be allowed," Caborn said. "The question is whether that, given the coverage of Premiership football on television, whether such shirt sponsorship should be regarded as advertising on TV."

I was surprised to see them on the back of the shirts in the first place...I guess a lot of countries are more liberal about gambling than the U.S. is, but I was still surprised...

Doubt that will happen. They mention the short sponsors of 4 football teams but the sponsorship goes much deeper than that. What about advertising hoardings at sporting events? What about gambling companies sponsoring sporting events? What about gambling companies advertising on the clothing of players?

Take the gambling sponsorship out of sport and someone needs to fill the gap, and there's just no-one else to fill it.

I have to agree here as money talks loudly in business...even if it's from companies that some consider "dirty"...I don't think gambling companies are dirty (at least ones like mansion), but a lot of really conservative people over here hate anything that has to do with gambling in general...

Kids are more likely to gamble from an early age if they come from a family that has an older member that is a gambler, usually their father, than from watching their team play soccer in shirts that bear gambling logos.
