van gundy failed miserably n thats the bottomline, u have to foul so they cannot tie the game or at least deny the 3pt line to make them go for two. obviously he didnt tel his players that, n thats unacceptable for sum1 thats coaching in the finals. orlandos chance in this series hinged on the outcome of this game. yes howard needs to practice his FTs too but van gundy showed y he is not going to be a hall-of-fame coach, making all the wrong decisions when it matters most.

I've read the threads about him being useless but how can he be useless if he's taken his team to the finals? And also, why weren't there threads before the finals saying how useless he was....or maybe there were, were there?

Just wondered. As someone that knows fuk all about the game, it strikes me that if Howard makes his free throws the spotlight wouldnt even be on Van Gundy.

      Am i reading it wrong?
No, Van Gundy rode his players to the finals. The Magic simply have the best center in the league (next year he will be better than Yao, and he is surely more durable), and a bevy of great offensive and defensive players. The Magic are loaded with great players. Athletic, tall, 3 point shooters, and 4 good to great defenders when Lee, Peitrus, Alston, and Howard are all on the floor together. That is an all NBA defensive team almost on its own. Magic have the defensive player of the year in Howard and he is the most dominating center in the game today. He is the next Shaq.

I will go on record and say that if Nelson had never been injured, this would not have even been a series. Healthy Nelson was the 2nd best player on the team this year, head and shoulders better than Alston. Magic would have won game 2 with a healthy Nelson, and won last nights game. It would be 3-1 Magic with the close out game coming up.

I must admit that Van Gundy is a good play caller and he got Lee that layup attempt to win game 2. However a mistake of this calibur is going to be his downfall, its just beyond a bad mistake. He already had his own players blasting him in press conferences. He is done.

I rather let one guy beat me, then allow other players like Ariza or Fisher get in rhythm, with a freaking mile wide open shots.

As dumb as the three point play was, all Howard needed to do was make one shot and the game was done. Similar to Memphis choke job in this game, so Calipari must feels a little vindicated for not being the only dumbest coach.
That may be so, but let's not minimize how badly Denver choked, and how pathetic it was.

If Howard adds a jump shot, he'll be unstoppable. Right now his game is pretty much rebound and dunk.

LOL not to mention having Howard in the game when you have the ball and up 3. What a choke job. That was as bad as not fouling.

Harvey, his patented move now is the running right little hook shot that is unguardable unless you put somebody in his way which teams do. So he needs to develop a short game moving to his left. I dont think he will ever have a jumpshot. Shaq never did. Shaq just got very good short game to go along with his dunks and that was enough.

Actually you need Howard in offense because he is the best rebounder in the league. Problem is he didn't have a play drawn when he was up by 3. Why not have one of the guards drive to the hoop? He will either get fouled or if he misses Howard would get the rebound.

thats a good point pavy. Why on earth would they throw the ball in to Howard knowing they would hack him? Hack a Howard. Instead of hack a shaq its now hack a howard. And it works.

Why was this not instructed??????? Why was this not known by Jameer that with 5 seconds left 2 free throws does the Lakers no good?

OMFG this is the worst goof of all time. Instant fire of stan van gundy and Jameer should never run an NBA team again. He is not smart enough to shine shoes for a living.

HELL YES BROTHER!! I said it after game ****ing one in my thread Van Gundy is a douche. One of my best friends played for him at a small college before going pro in Europe league. He said that he should be fired immediately. You beat the defending champions, besides a last minute shot by Lebrone would have swept Cavs (the team with the best record) and now lets play a guy 28 minutues after 4 months on the ****ing bench. And continue to throw hom in the game at crutial times, like fourth and OT!! I can't even tell you the stats the are ****ing sick. Is Jamire sucking Gundys dick? This series should be 3-1 Orlando right now instead of the other way. LA has not beat this team yet besides game one. PERIOD.

With that said I am really impressed by the Laker nation and there impartial attidtude. I really don't they wanted to win this way and it is the most incredible peice of sportmanship I have seen
