    Unemployment Degenerate Style
So assuming nothing changes for me before the end of the month, as in no one sees fit to employ me before I am let go from my current job, I will be collecting unemployment. I get one final check from my job on the first day of next month and will not have to worry about rent in July either. So, I'm thinking unemployment goes straight to the sportsbooks.

Seriously. I'll have a place to stay and will keep looking for work, but why the F not. Sitting at home with a four year college degree and free money with nothing else to do. Sounds like heaven.

I'm about 58% serious. Those percentages should continue to rise.

Sounds like a great idea, you are going to have lots of free time on your hands, might as well enjoy it.

        just curious

how much does unemployment pay and what are the rules

if I'm in college can I get it in the summers?
what about my mom (retired teacher who just got let go from being a teachers assistant (was double dipping on retirement plus assistant money)) is she eligable?

Win like there's no tomorrow. I imagine you worked pretty hard for that degree so reward yourself. Have fun and I hope you make a million.

Yeah, and the funds that you get all depend on which state you live in...usually it's like 240 [estimate] bucks a week...and it's only temporary.

I'd bet my life savings on No.

Unemployment configurations are crazy. Basically from what I understand at least in Texas, the more you made, the more you are entitled too. It's between $58 and $392 per week I believe based on some formula that they plug your last 12 months of work experience into. I don't make a ton of coin at my current job (5 figures but in the gray lower middle class area), so I'm not expecting more than $200.

With the extra time your win percentage should go up. Excellent decision to use your unemployement checks as part of your gambling bankroll. I would have done the same.

I figure WTF. it's like finding money on the street if I get it. I only have $600 worth of bills to pay each month, so my last check from the current job covers that easily for July and leaves me around $1,300 after that to work with. So I mean seriously I won't have anything better to do than cap sports and try to make that measly sum of unemployment turn into something.

Only thing that sucks - okay well in addition to being jobless - is moving my stuff out of this rental house and into storage for a bit. Actually, moving period. Hate it with a passion.

Well, good luck eags, mind as well roll the dice on the unemployment check. Make sure you have em' take the taxes out or 2010 Uncle Sammy is gonna come knockin'. Heck you'll be lucky to be able to buy a loaf of bread with the check so why not try to double it.

You (and I) are not too big to allow to fail. Sorry, no stimulus check for you, just massive, productivity crushing debt for you and a couple of generations down the road.

May have stumbled into a short term solution. Friend of a friend had their mobile DJ quit who did karaoke at a local bar here. If I get my own equipment, short term investment of about $1,000 ... could make $300-400 there doing that. Thinking about it heavily as I've done DJ stuff before and the rest of the job market is dry dry dry.

Make sure to get paid in cash, then you can still collect unemployment.
