How Bad Are The Houston Astros??
I thought the Nationals were the worst team MLB had to offer.

Looks like they got some new competition. This ball club looks like a high school team

That Astros are currently the worst run organization in MLB. They have nothing at the major league level, and nothing at the minor league level.

I think you guys are overestimating how weak they are currently, its probably only going to get worse come trade deadline time. Although I do agree there future very dim over the next say 5 years.

Sorry pal, but the Pittsburgh Pirates are by far the worst run organization in MLB.

And you're from Pittsburgh! You don't see this?

Without looking it up, can you even tell me where their three Single-A teams are located, much less who the top prospects are on those teams? Got any clue who Andrew Locke is? Here's an easy one: Who was their 2008 Round 1 draft pick, where is he playing this season, what position does he play and how's he doing so far?

I'm not sold on Wandy yet, he got shelled by Colorado the other day.

                    Add Edwin Maysonet.

Wait a minute! You're convinced Maysonet, the kid from that breeding ground for baseball superstars Delta State with all of 51 career at bats is a stud, yet a pitcher in his fifth season and having a second-straight fine season is not?

I've lived in Houston for 20 years. Drayton McClain is all about making money, not winning. There was a big article in the Houston Chronicle yesterday about the Astros being the only team in MLB to not allow outside food or drink in their ballpark. I refuse to pay $3.75 for a bottled water - f*ck him.

That being said, the Astros are actually overachieving this year in my opinion. Their pitching sucks outside of Oswalt (Wandy is a pretender) and Berkman and Lee are past their prime. Look for the Astros to move Pence and/or Bourn before the trade deadline, they always dump outfielders.

Roag, lived there for the better part of 40 years and understand the bit about the no food or drink allowed to be brought in. They had that rule for years as well in the old Astrodome, and I took photos of some of the Astros wives bringing Happy Meals down to their field box seats for their kids and sent them to the two newspapers (at the time) and the Astros front office in the 80s. The last few years of the old building in the late 90s, they got real lax about that for everyone. McLane gets a larger cut from Aramark (or whatever they call themselves these days) to enforce that rule.

I sort of disagree with you on a couple of points, however. Not much really shocks me any longer at this stage in my life, but I would be very surprised if they dealt Pence. I could see some of the 'lesser' players getting traded, perhaps Pudge if someone is hurting for a catcher and he's doing ok, maybe Blum for some team needing an infield backup with some playoff experience, Latoya Hawkins to a team that is in need of middle relief. I would LOVE for them to get a prospect or two for El Caballo, but don't see that happening without Houston swallowing a good portion of his contract which, as you already noted, is not in McLane's general MO.

Also, I see them as rolling along at about the pace they should be. Had them down for about 75 wins this year and they're currently cruising towards about 73.

Emmett, the Astros may Cloak themselves as a good fade, but when you least expect it they will sink a Dagger in your back. So just be careful

Willie, I can't disagree with you. I hope they don't move Pence but they've dis-penced (sorry!) of some pretty good players in the past few years. And I wouldn't be surprised if Oswalt is gone this season also.

Oswalt would be in Chicago playing for the WhiteSox had he been willing to go..

I say he winds up in Philly by the trade deadline
