If he says he needs to pay the man on Tuesday, do NOT give him cash. You can decide if you want to go with him and pay it or work out a plan, but giving him access to money if you can't control it is bad news.
So, just watch him get his legs broken? Hospital bills will be much more than a few thousand dollars.

this is going to be painful for him in the short term but can actually be beneficial long term if he learns from his mistake.
yeah i've had pretty much every addiction there is except sex, since the women i've been with are not good enough for anyone to get addicted to or even enjoy
and as i type it's not even 11am and i've had a couple 24 oz cheladas and made a ton of bets

Every poster on this site has been down this path. Some more, some less. As an adult, it's up to you as the individual to change. No amount of intervention will help.

wasn't aware that there is any such thing as gambling rehab. there is GA where everyone goes to get a ride after the meeting to go to the track, casino or card game but gambler's rehab? who runs that and why.

I said to go with him to pay the man (if that's what Sammy wants to do with his money) or work out a payment plan. I'm sure the kid already cooked up a scheme to pay his local and pad the BR with Sammy's money by inflating the amount owed. So my advice was to not just give the kid cash to pay up. Hopefully the kid is playing post up only.

Take over his finances Sam. Give him a gambling allowance and just have him go to counseling.

yeah there's a bunch of rehab centers, some inpatient some outpatient
most of them just shock your nuts or punch you in the face every time you think about making a bet

Sammy until he hits rock bottom than he will never get well. The track was my downfall. I lost 2 different jobs paying mass loot. Until I was puking outside turfway park I couldn't give it up. My mom drags me to derby day and it is all I can do to keep my stomach down.

If he's like me or a lot of others it might be just action that he craves
I'll bet 1k on a game or 1000 betpoints on a game and the feeling isn't identical but it's similar
It's extremely hard to quit having action cold turkey. Encourage him to bet on season long bets and props. He will have action every game without betting every game.
I used to put 50k in action on an NCAAF/NFL weekend. Now I just enter survivor pools and bet season win totals for the most part. Maybe he could switch to that type of thing. Like I said, the feeling isn't exactly the same but it feeds the need for action and doesn't consume my life anymore.

Sammy
What type of a disciplinarian were you when he was younger?
Did you give him the belt?
Or did you let everything just pass?
Just curious
