    Are there any laws AGAINST me placing bets for someone?
    Say a certain someone who lives in another state, on the east coast, wanted to Western Union me a decent size amount of money. This money would be used to place wagers for them. Then at the end of the month, they offered me 10% of then END BALANCE (whether they were up $10,000 or they only had $500 left).

    If I accepted this offer from them, and did this. Would I be breaking any laws what-so-ever? Ive looked and cant find any, and it sounds good since I go to the sportsbook daily anyways.

    You guys are knowledgable, and would appreciate the help. Thanks!

    I venture that the minute he telephones or communicates for you to place a wager a law has been broken given it is illegal to wager in his State...if it wasn't what would prevent these landbased casinos from opening online shops?

          Very illegal.

          First, you're breaking your local state laws against gambling. Probably minor - misdemeanor.

          Second, you might become part of a "professional bookmaking group", which in theory makes you part of a bookmaker. This is more serious - State Felony.

          Third, and most importantly, if you might be in violation of the federal wire act - if you receive gambling information on the telephone and accept a bet, it is a federal felony. While you call it "placing a bet for a friend", the government might view it as you booking his bet, and laying it off. If they pursue this, you're screwed. While it's possible no one will care or chase you on this, the risk of the feds coming after you for this makes any possible gains on this not worth pursuing.

          Btw, the deal they are offering sounds too good to be true. 10% of net balance per month? Will you get screwed? Yes -1000 No +800.

            The wire act is what makes it illegal.

                Im not going to do it. It was a family friend asking me to do it for him cause he loves to bet, but hates the hassle of the online betting. Im just going to not bother with it lol. Let him do it on his own. Thanks for the help, I knew there had to be something bad about this. GREAT INFO !!

                  How could he get screwed if he's only placing money and taking his % from money he's already been sent or picked up for winning bets?

                  He controls the money.

                    You set up a code like this:

                    Lakers = birds
                    Magic = magician
                    blue = moneyline
                    red = point spread
                    over = over
                    under = under

                    Your relative calls you and says this:

                    I saw some beautiful blue birds this morning, they were flying over my house.

                    What does it mean? He wants the Lakers on the moneyline and the over.

                    Next game, your relative calls you and says this:

                    I saw a magician on TV last night. He had a cool red outfit and the show was over too soon.

                          Now that I think about it, there's no code necessary.

                          This guy's relative just needs to post his picks on sites like this under various usernames. The guy who's making the bets then needs to check the daily selections from random internet bars, libraries, etc.

                            It is easier to make bets online than make bets out of state

                                    exactly. done and done, those fukks will never catch you.

                                    another thing you can do is the old trick where you say what you want to say in negative, any variation of "I am not calling you to tell you to bet the Lakers on the money line and the over". Or you can be like "if I were in Vegas right now I would go to a casino and bet the Lakers on the money line and the over"

                                        As the U.S.government and Goldman Sachs did and is doing a complete and absolute,total barfarama bailing out anybody and everybody connected to that good ol boys club partnership,the little people are worried about spending their own money that they earned on a bet partnership arrangement .That says it all doesn't it!The submissive subjects have to worry that an authority figure will forbid them to do something they want to do.Why am I hearing that old Beetles song,Back in the U.S.S.R.in my mind?Next thing you know,you will need a shortwave radio in your basement to hear betting lines.

                                                  If he sends you the plays via pigeon post no laws are violated assuming you can prove the route traveled was a bird migration route.

Im just going to not bother with it lol. Let him do it on his own. Thanks for the help, I knew there had to be something bad about this. GREAT INFO !!
                                                    No one knows even if you do it. In reality, it's between you & the other guy. Good to have some side income. 10% can be lots of money if he does well. You have nothing to lose but everything to gain. It's just like a part-time job for you.

                                                      Just have the guy join SBR and he can post his plays. You can then place the bet in Vegas for him.
