On my Mother's side her family was very big into the Horce Racing game. They actually won the Derby in 1960, Venetian Way won the Derby, it is pretty cool that it is my family. It's to bad they have nothing to do with it now and I am sure out of all the Derby winners we are the poorest family there is around.

I can't stand the euro-royalty sounding names on a horse with vowels on the end.They also should outlaw the word gold or silver included in a name.It's all bandwagon groupthink.

If you want good names for horses,go to tracks in places like Nebraska where they name them Umbrella Fella or Who Doctor Who.Canada is good too with the Northern Dancer lineage.My favorite speedball was a claimer called Northern Spike that raced at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg and it made the Guiness Book of World Records for a sprint speed record.I like the play on words names of horses and race tracks.Aksarben=Nebraska ,Atokad=Dakota Sodrac=South Dakota Racing and a horse called Ky-Alta that was bred in Kentucky and raced in Alberta.Older hoses from the 50's-70's had better names too.

Too many yuppies and too many phoney bailed out Wall Street types got into racing and that's when the names started changing.

Get old race forms from Nebraska.I remember a cheap old war horse claimer that raced forever called Shake,Rattle and roll and it did that coming down the stretch.Most cheap horses in places like Nebraska run like they are out of allignment.hehe!

One of the best one's I remember was one that raced up at Longacres in Seattle called Do right by Dudley.Another play on words one.

Loved the name of a greyhound that raced at the Black Hills track in Rapid City,South Dakota named Hamburger Hank Sounds like a great name to name a fast food chain,Hamburger Hank's.It reminds me of Rough house on Popeye or maybe Hamburger Hill from the Viet Nam war.
