#14This is what Verlander needed. He'll be pumped up to perform for Houston.
Tigers can go fuk themselves. Can't stand the Ilitch family. Traitors.Comment -

#16Detroit is quietly making some good moves, the Verlander contract is horrible even with how well he's pitched. Houston could have done better but they seem desperate with Mcullers still out. Houston still needs another couple arms in the bullpen.Comment -

#18Report: Verlander nixes last-minute deal to Astros
I read Verlander invoked his no trade clause stopping the trade to Houston.
Justin was overheard saying that he "didn't want to swim to work".
Earlier Thursday, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported there was a belief the Tigers' right-hander would permit a trade to the Chicago Cubs or Los Angeles Dodgers, though his willingness to allow a deal to the Astros at the time was unclear.
Verlander is earning $28 million this season, the fifth of a seven-year extension he signed with Detroit prior to the 2013 season that will pay him a guaranteed $180 million until 2019, according to Cot's Baseball Contracts. He could earn another $22 million in 2020 if he finishes in the top five of Cy Young voting in 2019.
In order for Verlander to appear in the postseason with another team, they would have to acquire the 34-year-old and add him to the roster before Friday.
Verlander has appeared in 380 games over his 13-year career in the majors, all of them starts with Detroit. The hurler would have been a key addition to the Astros' rotation with respect to their postseason aspirations, as Verlander is posting a 3.82 ERA and 1.279 WHIP in 28 outings (172 innings) this season for the Tigers.Comment -

#19They family doesn't have any passion anymore. It's just business moves on top of business moves for themselves. In the 90's there was a lot of passion and hope. I guess when you have everything... you lose your passion for the people.... that helped pump you up years ago.
They mismanaged the Tigers. I could go on and on.
There's a lot of things going on behind closed doors. When Ilitch died the teams were supposed to automatically go to Marian (the wife.) But because she owns Motor City Casino... you aren't allowed to own a MLB team when you are an owner of a casino. I don't know what the NHL rules are in regards to the Red Wings? Not sure. But... from a federal tax standpoint... a husband is allowed to hand down businesses to the wife... that is 100% non-taxable. But, once you hand the teams down to you offspring... you are taxed 40% of what the team is worth at said date. Based on Federal Tax laws. So, to try and bypass the tax bill... they put the Detroit Tigers into a TRUST. This isn't a guarantee that the Federal government won't come after them for some form of payment.
The other issue is with that possible extreme tax bill... Ilitch already used the Red Wings and Tigers as collateral for the private debt of Comerica Park. Which... on record... isn't paid off. So, there is a strong possibility the Tigers will have to be sold.
Just tired of the bullsh#$ that they promised so many fans here in Detroit.... A Tigers Championship. All the commercials here the past 4-5 years... making fans excited to buy season tickets. The entire family can go fuk themselves. Yeah I get it... it's business.... it's all about making money. Now, have fun paying that tax debt. Hope you lose the team to someone that actually gives a sh#$ about winning.Comment -

#24If anything, the Astros needed an infusion of energy, and this just did it. Will Harris is coming back to the bullpen. Correa will be back soon. McCullers now has more time to figure out his problems after his injury. Timing in baseball is everything, and Houston's hopes might just be falling in line.Comment -

#26What does that have to do with the fact that the Cardinals are not making the playoffs this season and they know it? Why would they trade away assets to add to a team that is not making the playoffs? Cards management know it, only low-info fans don't.Comment -

#33.In final moments, Verlander decides on Astros
.As midnight ET approached on Thursday night, Justin Verlander was at his home in suburban Detroit. Tigers officials were in the house with him, offering updates on the status of trade conversations with the Astros and Cubs. The fates of multiple franchises -- hopeful hearts in a hurricane-ravaged city, the winner of the 2017 World Series -- all hinged on one man's decision.
When the Tigers and Astros first agreed on an exchange of players, Verlander, who has a full no-trade clause, was asked for his permission. He said no -- or, more accurately, not yet . He was not averse to pitching in Houston. But Verlander and his fiancée, Kate Upton, have always loved Chicago. (The Dodgers, also near the top of his wish list, weren't seriously involved Thursday.) As long as the Cubs were an active possibility -- and they were, into the final hour -- Verlander couldn't commit anywhere else.
