Two others come to mind, but not as good as Gibson.

Don Drysdale was one mean son of a bitch on the mound. How mean, you ask? He once threw at a baserunner! Almost as good a pitcher as Gibson, but not quite.

Not nearly as good as either Gibson or Drysdale, Danny Darwin was still fair on the mound and never -- EVER -- backed down from a fight. Took on a bunch of weenie White Sox fans who were trying to give the business to little Mickey Rivers when the two played together with the Rangers. In 1986 during spring training, the Astros players decided that Darwin and Nolan Ryan were the two toughest guys on the team and there was going to be a little 'sparring match' set up between them before manager Hal Lanier put the squahitas on that. Darwin was going off as the favorite, by the way.

Ryan probably isn't someone to be toyed with even now at his age. In one of his books, he flat out denied ever throwing at anyone's head noting that you could put most of the batters out of action longer with a nice fastball to the ribs.
