It's a case of you don't ask you don't get. They're not worried about burning bridges since it's unlikely they'd do future deals with their rival anyway.

Ainge should hang up at this suggestion. Cavs need this deal more than Boston does. They will not get a better offer and Irving will not report to camp if he isn't dealt. Celts should counteroffer an additional 2nd rounder or their own 1st in 2019. Nothing more.

Worst case deal gets voided.
