#772Yeah, it's a shame Walton's career was plagued by injuries, and for that reason I find it hard to compare. No doubt he was great. We will never know how it would've played out had he been healthy.Originally posted by ChuckyTheGoatSpurs, if u ever want a good bar-room debate, consider this one:
*At his PEAK...who was a better NBA player? Kareem or Walton?
It seems so obvious. Kareem wins by a mile on the productivity + durability. Of course, the big IF with Walton is the injuries.
By my count, Walton had a PEAK of only 1.5 years. Blazers win title in 1977. In the 77/78 season...Blazers are off to a 50-10 start. They're rolling! And then the next Walton injury hits, he's out for the season.
They lose in 1st rd vs SEA (who won the West, btw). It was a YOUNG Blazer roster. How many titles would they have won?
Walton had passing skills that very few big-men had. He was comfortable away from the hoop. I know it's crazy to say, but I think he impacted the game in more ways.Comment -

#773Haha, great find Chucky. Robinson was insanely athletic. As great as Big 5-0 was as a player, he's a better human being. His philanthropy in setting up the Carver Academy in San Antonio puts him in an exclusive class of humanitarian.Comment -

#774You bet, Spurs. Always came across as a great guy. Imagine having that type of athletic skill + still being humble.Originally posted by spurginobiliHaha, great find Chucky. #785Gonna post a couple videos. Note: they're good...but long.
Tim Russert is like a kid in a candy store, interviewing Yogi Berra + Whitey Ford. They re-play Jackie Robinson's famous steal of home. And a special guest around 25:00:
Whitey Ford made a funny comment. Implied that he could get hammered more often than Mantle, b/c Whitey drank any nite that he wasn't STARTING the next day.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

I did this into a 50,000 yr old sinkhole in Mexico
Thought I was gonna drown. The impact is horrible, then I sunk and sunk and sunk some more.
Musta swallowed a gallon of dirty Mexico water.
Probably immune to everything for life now.
The heart was pumping loud and hard on the way over the edge, that's the hardest part...the edge!Comment -
