A few square-groove clubs (Ping Eye 2 made between 1985 and 1989) were illegal, but have been grandfathered and may be played legally today.

That is what I am after. Someone told me they were banned because of the spin they put on the ball created too much of an advantage. (This what I heard, I could be wrong)

Some 20 or so years later they lift the ban and a couple of pros on the tour used 20 year old clubs in tournament play. (This is something I know happened as I saw on ESPN and read about it as well)

Edit: I played with these (not the bronze head, but still eye 2s) when I was younger and loved these clubs.

i have 3 sets of ping eye2, and only 1 is kept unused in the wrapper and since my family has been in the golf industry forever, yea ill keep them there

even if it turns out they are fake like that antiques road show

I figured it would be an insult to offer up $ for those new clubs.

The ones I looked at were selling for $600.
