pimike was trying to make a funny - Smith is a retired boxer.

Kermit Cintron is fighting Allfredo Angulo tonight. I have no opinion on Berto/Urango.

Hearns-Hagler in about 84 or 85 was probably the best fight I've ever seen, three rounds of mayhem.

After the fight Hagler was asked why he spelled Marvelous with only one L and he said it was because he made: 'One L of a difference.'

                    Those were the days.

Easily one of the best fights of all-time. 3 rounds that felt like 12.

                      There's been a ton of great fights over the last 10 years though, and a shitload of classic trilogies... Morales-Barrera (x3), Pacquio-Morales (x3), Gatti-Ward (x3), Vasquez-Marquez (x3), Castillo-Corrales (x2).

Boxing talent is alive and very well - it's the alphabet soup organizations and lack of proper marketing that's hurting the sport in the eyes of the public.

I beileve that, I also think the best thing boxing could do for itself is put 99% of fights on a network in Primetime and let HBO keep the 1% of big fights for PPV.

That'll never happen unfortunately. Boxing is a cluster**** of big independent egos.

Showtime has caught up to HBO too in terms of putting together quality PPV's with intriguing matchups. You couldn't really give the monopoly to HBO.

It's the dozen of belts/organizations who need to go first. Have one title per division so that there is a clear champion in every weight class. The Ring magazine belt has been pushing to get itself recognized as THE authority, but they're far from reaching that status yet.

And when they reach that status it will be tainted because a third party or organisation are seen/perceived to be getting preferential treatment.

You're right, boxing, through promotion, ate itself.
