Best ways to get cheap NFL tickets?? (eagles @ giants 12/17)
Heading to the big city for a long weekend. My friends in New Jersey suggested I just go down to the stadium and wait until the game kicks off, then get some from a scalper trying to unload them. I'm looking to pay about $300 total for 3 tickets.

All the usual stubhub and craigslist type websites are way too expensive, most starting out about $265/ea.

Has anyone had recent success at a Giants home game with the scalper-10-mins-after-kickoff method?

***12/19 UPDATE***Getting tickets outside the Meadowlands couldn't have been easier. There were at least 4 guys with handfuls right on the sidewalk where the bus from NYC dropped off. I got 2 on the 25 yard line, 43 rows up from the field on the lower level, $120 each. I missed the first three plays of the game walking into the stadium, but we were in our seats for 4th down of the first drive.

*One hilarious side note. A guy from craigslist called me Saturday morning and claimed to have great LL seats for $125/ea, and sent one of his "employees" to meet me in a hotel lobby. The guy that showed up was this huge black thug who had prison tattoos on his hands. His tickets were fake as hell, just hilarious scan/print bullsh1t. I just told him I wasn't interested because they didn't look real, and I could tell he knew he was getting called out on his scam. Luckily I wasn't born yesterday and got excellent seats 5 minutes before I was sitting in them. Moral of story: go with scalpers, they're still making money on $70 face tickets and I was glad to pay $120/ea for 25-yard LL.

Have you checked ebay? I know I picked up baseball tickets for a good price from a season ticket holder that couldnt make that certain game. Its worth looking.

Well yeah, all you could do is go down and see what you can get off those scalpers. Good luck and let us know what you end up with.

Have you checked your local paper, in the classifies?

craigslist.com usually has tikcets in most markets.

Although, since face to face meetings are usually required, I'm not sure Id go this route in a city that I'm visiting. I'd want to know the place we'd meet for the exchange so I would feel safe.

In general, be careful when buying from anyone. Fake tickets are all over the place.

I was at the USC/ND game last week and met a guy that paid $500 for ticket on the 45 yard line, only to learn it was fake when he tried to get into the game.

Sometimes paying a little extra from a reputable ticket broker/agent is the way to go....easier and safer.

I'd definitely go the eBay route as well...just make sure the seller has a good feedback rating...

The prices at the stadium will be close to the ebay prices 12-24 hours before hand.

Unfortunately, when tickets are going for $225 on Sat they likely will be going for $225 on Sunday.

Now if they werent selling on ebay, then you might get them cheaper, but not for this one. $225 actually seems on the cheap end.

                  Eagles vs Giants?

Philly's only about an hour and a half from Giant Stadium so you'd be competing with both Giants and Eagles fans for the scraps.

                  $100 a ticket? Not a chance, I'm afraid.

Thanks for all the advice so far.

I usually have really good luck with scalpers. Pags, I noticed you said to be careful that the tickets are legit. What I would do in this situation is make the scalper wait with me while one person out of my group (of three) went in to the stadium, thus confirming the tickets are legit. I've done this numerous times with no problem. I just show the guy the cash, and tell him I'll pay him for all three tickets once the first person gets into the stadium.

Ganchrow, thanks for the input, and I do realize $100 per may be a bit low. But my hope at this point is that since both the Giants and Eagles are in meltdown mode, the demand for tickets to this game won't be as high as usual. I know, "NFL game between two rivals right before Christmas" will mean high demand regardless, but again, just hoping to get lucky right after kickoff.

Why would anyone spend all this money to watch a football game is behond belief, hey but we are all different. I rather get $300 worth of pot and smoke with a chick all day and watch the game.

Scalping is the best way, EBay is a fraud and you will get scammed with no recourse.

Tickets from a broker here: New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles Tickets - Giants Stadium on Sun. Dec 17, 2006 1:00 PM at $175 each for 4 or betwen $150 - $160 each for singles.

Although these prices do seem to be standard across many brokers. I'm guessing they're all drawing from some central pool ...

Thanks for the link. While $175/per is certainly palatable and by far the lowest I've seen so far, I'm holding on to my pipe dream that there's someone on this forum who's gone the scalper route outside the stadium recently. I've had great success at Memphis Grizzlies games back in 02-03.

Yeah, as others have cautioned that could potentially be dangerous as far as getting counterfeit tickets goes.

3 (real) tickets could be a difficult quantity to come by at the event as most scalpers aren't going to want to split up a 4 block set into a 3 and a 1. I actually wouldn't expect you'll find many legitimate scalpers at Giant Stadium at all. More likely you'll just find scammers and some people with an extra few tickets to sell.

You might have the most luck finding 3 singles from groups with an extra ticket belonging to a friend that couldn't make it. That's obviously suboptimal, but could still be your best bet.

Leaving for the airport in about an hour, thought I'd bump this one more time.

Let me know if anyone has gotten tickets from a scalper outside a Giants game before.
