#2732questionso my friend introduced me to bit coin like 3-4 years ago when he was buying drugs off silk road with it. I dabbled in it because it was interesting, and then when offshore started taking it as deposit I used it there. So I have no real experience for people actually paying bitcoin for anything other than dark web stuff and gambling. with some of these newer crypto's that everyone is talking about what is the marketplace for it currently? are there people accepting some of these newer alts already as payment for goods/services?or are the prices almost solely a function of the belief that that particular alt's tech ect ect might someday make it come out head and shoulders above the rest? or at least be one of the few alt coins that is thriving 10-20-50 years from now?
Many companies are looking to use the encryption technology but I think eventually, every business will use parts of these technologies as well. Let's say you want to better protect a license you have. You would probably want to partner with one of these technologies. How much is it worth to you? We shall all see. If you are a painter, wouldn't you want to protect your prized painting/lithograph with some type of encryption? I think this is all about geography, security and anonymity. How to safely transfer shit from one part of the world to the other, how to send something without anyone knowing, if you like, or especially anyone breaking in or stealing it.Comment -

#2733It's the Wild Wild West right now. Many people are speculating. Everyone is trying to post up to the nearest and dearest offering. It's like when the internet was first becoming mainstream. Companies just threw money at Dot.Com peeps and anyone that had a website. All these coins are pitching their technologies. Which ones make sense? Which ones will take off is anyone's guess. Overstock.com is taking BTC to buy shit, so there stock has gone through the roof as an early adopter. Imagine if Amazon starts taking LTC or ETH or BTC? Whatever coin they use, will see a huge spike. Will one coin be the standard? I don't think so but several coins will have significant market share.

so basically no on the map or legit entities are taking ADA, XRP, NEO ect as payment right now?
gotta believe Amazon will not let Overstock beat them by much on this avenueComment -

Bezos seems to be a want it all type of guy. I think he'll find a way to create his own crypto or partner with one of these other established but they're going to have to pay him a shitload for sure.
I just downloaded a great Android app called Blockfolio. It tracks all your coins from all your wallets (I have 20+ wallets). It is very neat and gives you a great overview of what your portfolio is doing.Comment -

#2738Nope, I don't know any merchant that takes ADA, XRP, NEO yet. Only a few take BTC. ETH and LTC are popping up some places as well but we are at the very beginning of this craze.

#2747There is more and more talk about how much power it takes to mine most crypto currencies. I recently read an article about how bitcoin mining facilities around the world are using the same amount of power as the country of Ireland and that it's an environmental concern. An alternative to GPU or Asic mining is hard drive mining. It takes a lot less power. The industry may start moving in the direction of hard drive mining more and more. I own a mining facility and we are starting to order a sh*t ton of hard drives to turn into mining rigs.
Burst and Siacoin are both mined using hard drives. Both are also up about 100% in the last week. Something to keep an eye on.Comment -

#2751Is there a way to set it to convert the value of your portfolio in USD (or are we just going to have to guesstimate in our head)? Very nice to keep track, but I'd prefer to have it go one step further and give me the value relative to USD instead of Bitcoin.Comment -

#2753damn this sh*t is addicting, I'm now an Insomniac with an addiction to Monster energy drinks...great
but I just dipped my toe in for $1,500 and I've already added 2k on top of it with ETH, XVG and TRX so there's that...so much volatility though, I'll probably blow it all on a penny gamble by the end of the yearComment -

I have a lot of coins and a good chunk of cash. The fluctuations is unreal. Every time you scroll it updates portfolio value. I'll see rise and drops of several thousands of dollars every 20 seconds some times. I just lost about $2,100 in the last minute. No clue on what. Definitely can't get caught up on all the changing data.Comment -
