My $.02. Short term, I feel the big 3 ( BTc,eth, ltc) will soar on weekends as average joes dabble on their off days. Alt coins boom during the week. Long term, most all will soar until a clear cut winner emerges( it's not btc). I don't love xrp for the same reasons others have mentioned, but it's hard to go against the banksters. They seem to always get their way. First of the year, stock market will go down as investors liquidate for cryptos. 2018 will booom. Load up. For me it's big 3 + xrp + ada + Xmr for now.

Add zcash and monero to that list. If not one, split your entry point and buy both. Privacy coin will boom next year (personal opinion)

I was looking into trying some of the other ones mentioned here but not sure which platform would be good for a beginner.. ive read polyniex is decent? Any suggestions? Thanks

I like Poloniex and Bittrex. If you are going to trade coins not listed on those two, then Binance is the place to go.

Unless bitcoin raises to like 30-40k the average joe will be out by early next year and hopefully we can still profit in this thread

Good shit Raider. I threw a dime on it and I think it's gone up $800 in a day. I don't know a damn about any of this shit. I'm just throwing money on it like I throw money on the crap table. I'm trying to setup a top 10 of coins and just keep adding money to them. I don't ever sell. I've moved them around a bit but I want to get where I don't move them, just keep adding money to them. I saw Binance add Tron to my account out of the blue but I had no idea why? Not trying to out think this shit. Just riding the wave. 20 years from now, my kids will think I was some fukking genius. Sounds like TRX has been working with Alibaba, and there is a rumor that they may accept TRX as payment in the future. Which imo would be massive for TRX. Alibaba is the Amazon of China. I'm seeing this little dip as a buying opportunity. Sounds like some very smart guys behind TRX, including a guy Forbes wrote about possibly being the next Jack Ma.

I'm fairly new to it, but it's simple. Buy altcoins on Binance, had to buy Ethereum (cheaper to transfer than Bitcoin) on Coinbase then send it to my Binance account. Others like Bittrex rather than Binance, I think Binance is easier to use and the app is great. Bittrex does offer more coins though.
