Has anyone lived up to EARLY HYPE like Lebron?
Does anyone remember Lebron James' High School games being televised on ESPN? I remember 5 dimes putting up lines on those games, unreal!

Anyways, James was being hailed as the chosen one when he was in High School and he's lived up to the hype and more. He was being called the next Jordan when he was in High School and it's actually happening!

I don't remember that happening before.

Sidney Crosby has as well, as much as his haters would like to say otherwise...

As young as 14 he was already being heralded as one of the greatest of all time and "the next Wayne Gretzky".

In 2005 he came into the league having just turned 18 before the season started and finished 6th in the league in scoring with 102 points, pretty unheard of for such a young player in this day and age.

He took the scoring title at 19 years old (2006) with 120 points.

2007 he only had 72 points in the regular season, but it was an injury shortened season (only 53 games). Come playoff time he led the Penguins to the Stanley Cup Finals and was tied for first in points in the playoffs with 28 when it was all said and done.

Now in 2008 he finished 3rd in scoring with 103 points (despite missing 5 games) and is once again tied for first in playoff scoring leading the Pens to the cup alongside Evgeni Malkin once again.

Good comparison with Crosby but I think what Lebron faces every night is much tougher than what Crosby faces every night.

No way can anyone compare Lebron to Tiger.

Nobody can touch Tiger, Lebron is not even the best player in the league. He's #2 behind Kobe, and actually if you want to discuss overall talent I believe he's #3 with Dwight Howard being the second most dominant, talented player in the league.

You must not remember the pre Texas steroid days of Seattle. Arod was winning batting titles and batting high .333's before the power came. Remember we are talking about hype from early production and he produced as a very young skinny player.

Larry Joe Bird aka the Legend, drafted as a juinor stayed for his senior year, then took the Celtics from worst to first in rookie year.

Now Red drafted this guy a year early.....and lived up to the hype

It's been quite a while back but I believe Jabar was heralded as a great player while still in high school in NY and later in college at UCLA. He certainly did live up to expectations.

It was just like any other game if I recall. They had a side, ML, and total for the televised games.

I remember the line being like -3.5. James' team was playing one of the best teams in the country. I only vaguely remember the situation but I remember 5 dimes put lines up, maybe someone can look it up.

I was an assistant coach on a team that beat Lebron his jr. year 1 week after he was on the cover of SI..... our star player Benson, blocked Lebron 2 times, it was glorious.....

Well I think Magic Johnson and Larry Bird lived up to the HYPE BETTER than Lebron did his first 6 seasons. For starters they both already had championships at this point. Lebron should not have been the rookie of the year in his first year as you look at Melo having better stats across the board. If you look at other sports Tiger Woods started off his professional career better than any player in the history of sports in my opinion. What about Michael Phelps I would say his HYPE at his age was the most deserving ever. There are to many great players in other sports I guess to name off. In basketball there are few that have done better, but I believe Johnson and Bird both deserve to be called better at this point for sure.

He was on roids even in HS. No one goes from barely bench pressing 100LBs to 305LBs over 1 summer which he did as a sophomore.

That had to be a rough day for you. I told you that Magic and Bird lived up the HYPE way better than Lebron has. They where expected to win right away and they both did as Magic won NBA Finals MVP as a ROOKIE. Bird ROY which was deserved unlike Lebron who should have lost out to Melo who had the better stats. That is not even mentioning that Bird led his team from worst to first Rookie year as well as won a championship I believe 2 seasons later.
