No, it's not something for nothing. It is investing in companies so they can take my money to do things like hire people, buy equipment, advertise, etc, so the company can better serve the community. The reason I invest rather than spend the money is for the expected return. If I can't get a return, I would go blow the money on immediate gratification. It is not taxed less than wages if it is held less than a year. The middle class pays less than the rich. Just because you pay 300k into something doesn't give you the right to take 3million out, and some day someone will find out the hard way.

Take away high income earners that do R&D, engineering, complicated medical research and procedures, we would be living like the Amish. They don't necessarily take a bigger chunk out of society, although they could, but that is because they contribute more. The top 1% makes 17% of the income, but pays 45% of the income taxes. That is not fair at all.
