Eminem's Relapse Expected To Set 2009 Sales Record

Early sales estimates predict Eminem’s Relapse will capture his fifth consecutive Number One on the charts next week with an astounding — for this economy, anyway — 650,000 copies sold. Even if Relapse merely surpasses 600K, the album will easily be the bestselling for a debuting album this year, and the highest sales week since AC/DC moved 784,000 copies of Black Ice in October 2008, Billboard.biz reports.

Of Em’s six officially released albums (we’re not counting the unearthed Infinite) only his debut album The Slim Shady LP failed to reach the top spot, settling for Number Two in 1999. But his five consequent albums all reached Number One, a feat that Marshall Mathers will likely accomplish for a sixth consecutive time when his Relapse 2 is released later this year. Additionally, Eminem’s Curtain Call: The Hits and the 8 Mile soundtrack also reached Number One.

Even though Relapse’s expected sales numbers are impressive, they don’t come close to the 711,000 copies 2004’s Encore sold in a truncated sales week after the release date was pushed up four days to combat that album’s leak. Relapse also isn’t within the same ballpark of the 1.76 million copies The Marshall Mathers LP sold in the pre-leak/pre-recession days of May 2000. According to Billboard.biz, Em’s last five albums alone have combined for roughly 33.3 million in sales just in the United States, making the rapper the bestselling artist in hip-hop. As part of the heavy promotion surrounding Relapse, the rapper hosted an album release party in Detroit on May 19th, and two songs from the performance will air on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tomorrow night.

He is the king of controvery and the best lyracist to ever hit the hip-hop World.

Yes, better than Tupac and Biggie, lyrically.

When it comes to hip hop, NO...it is not a joke. Name me rappers who cause more of a buzz outside of rap (in the news/talkshows/etc). There is no other one on his level, only "beef" with other rappers occurr.

Ok, and 50 cent dissed Oprah.

It's not real controversy, it's just creating controversy to get publicity. You might want to read up on the Sex Pistols sometime.

I recall Eminem dissed Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan in one of his recent songs. Hardly revolutionary.

He has done a lot worse than just call out celebrities.

"I pipe down, when the White House is wiped out
When I see that little Cheney dike get sniped out
Lights out, bitch adios, goodnight [gunshot] (AHH!)"

"I'm all for America, **** the government
Tell that C. Delores Tucker slut to suck a dick"

"The ringleader of this circus of worthless pawns
Sent to lead the march right up to the steps of Congress
And piss on the lawns of the White House and replace it with a Parental Advisory sticker
To spit liquor in the faces of in this democracy of hypocrisy
**** you Ms. Cheney! **** you Tipper Gore! **** you with the freest of speech this divided states of embarassment will allow me to have, **** you!"

"Hillary Clinton tried to slap me and call me a pervert
I ripped her ****in tonsils out and fed her sherbet (bitch)"

"Imagine it pouring, it's raining down on us
Mosh pits outside the oval office
              Someone's tryina tell us something,
Maybe this is God just sayin' we're responsible
              For this monster, this coward,
              That we have empowered
This is Bin Laden, look at his head noddin'
How could we allow something like this without pumping our fists
Now this is our final hour
Let me be the voice in your strength and your choice
Let me simplify the rhyme just to amplify the noise
Try to amplify the times it, and multiply by six...
Teen million people, Are equal at this high pitch
Maybe we can reach alqueda through my speech
Let the president answer a higher anarchy
Strap him with an Ak-47, let him go, fight his own war
Let him impress daddy that way
No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our own soil
No more psychological warfare, to trick us to thinking that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country, we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes its all lies
The stars and stripes, they've been swiped, washed out and wiped
And replaced with his own face, Mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you know why,
Cause I told you to fight."
I can quote 20 other things to but you get the point.....

He has been known to get EVERYONE mad, not just other rappers/celebrities.

Are the Sex Pistols rap artists? No

Guy is great but cannot compare to Tupac because he died. Tupac would of been an academy award winner actor also. Eminem could never last in Tupacs world. The guy was a real life thug/tough guy and not afraid to die and what was astounding about it he was extremely bright. Eminem was not militant like Tupac, not even close.

Ok, re-read my fukking posts pal. I said the best lyrically, which he is. I never said he lived a more "gangsta" life or who could last in each other's World.

He was not afriad to die and also lacked some common sense, which explains him being 6 feet under ground right now.

Eminem is white so all eyes are on him with every little thing he says.

Tupacs lyrics related more to the ghetto black communities where it all started. Eminem has lots of black fans but his music is not as real as Tupac's. I do not think a white guy could ever relate to real hip hop and rap music.

Guy (Eminem) is also a marketing genius. Whites buy more music than blacks and that helps his sales immensly. I think Emimen represents the white guy that wants to be a thug which is ok, don't get me wrong he is a hall of famer.

Tupac also "dissed" celebs, and Em definitely has a serious side. Your post is very one-sided.

Tupac was a genius, guy would of been one of strongest black men of all times. I heard Tupac gave so many people money all the time, very generous. He being a real life tough guy got him killed. He should of toned it down when he was big time.

Tupac had a much better voice also
