I NEVER bet the favorites. Betting horses is so hard. The ONLY way to make $$ in the long run is to spot play horses that are undervalued. If you are betting horses day in day out and every race you WILL LOSE. Simple as that.

Like anything you need to pick your spots to make money.
Betting on horses, sports, stocks, and options are all the same. Warren Buffett said something along the lines of, "if you could only buy 20 stocks over the course of your life, you would be a lot more selective."
The majority of us are action junkies and will bet on anything. Patience and selectivity will take you a long way in gambling.

Betting numbers is probably one of the only ways you would hit a huge trifecta or superfecta.
I hit a trifecta that paid $14000 by betting 3 longshots on top with a 9/2 second choice for second and the field for third, 25-1 won and my 9-2 was second, longest shot on the board hit 3rd at 80-1 favourite off the ticket and I cashed big.
I also hit a win4 at Woodbine Harness in back in 1999 that paid $15000, bet a $72 ticket and left the favourite out of each race, prices for each leg were $14, $18 $28 & $30 and was obviously a gap in the pools for it to pay that much.
I also play numbers, I like betting 7/4/all at the thoroughbreds.
The horses that make the gimmick bets pay large usually look unbettable and are difficult to handicap, numbers is the way to hit big trifectas.

$3 -$6 winners are no good to us Richie, we need a tri or super that pays $5K or more.
