Itunes sucks with Ipod

My wife has an Ipod with 100s of songs on it. If you try to use Itunes with this Ipod, it won't "approve" any of the songs, and wants to erase everything.

anyone know how to transfer files from an Ipod to Itunes? I've already wasted an hour on this.

There are hacks out there do transfer songs from the ipod to itunes, I've never done it so I can't tell you more than that. Itunes doesn't allow it because I could just give you my ipod, and you have all of the music that I have "purchased" for free on your computer and then you can easily put it on your ipod.

In terms of the automatic deleting, that has to do with a setting somewhere and I can't find it right now.

Buy an Iriver mp3 player. I've never had a problem with their software.

There's a number of software that will allow you to back up the songs on your PC (Winamp will do it, as well as Anapod Explorer) - from there, re-add them to your iTunes library and they should be properly re-synced with the iPod.

Simplest solution, though, is to use your iPod manually... there's a check box in iTunes somewhere so that iTunes doesn't try to impose its will on the contents of your device.

Make sure not to sync the iPod when connecting to iTunes. Your best bet is to explore a way to transfer the mp3's directly to a folder on your PC, and then transfer them onto iTunes. Trying to do it directly to iTunes from the iPod might be trickier.
