Who Collected Autographs When They Were Younger?
I sure as heck did. I would write and go to the park. Sad to say I sold a lot of them. I regret it. I stumbled on a site, sportscollectors.net. They have a list of who has been signing. Now, I'm 33 and will not be caught dead trying to get autographs at a park. I have a 2 year old son and am thinking it would be nice to get items for my son. For example they have a lot of 80's/90's players like Greg Gagne, Bobby Bonilla, ect. I would send them some cards. Some hof's sign like Bob Feller, Duke Snyder for a $15 donation. I know it may be queer to some but I need a new hobby instead of blowing money every night. Geez, at least I'll have something to remember and pass down.

Basically for free it shows who has signed recently and the address to where it was sent. For $15 you get an extensive list. I didn't sign up for it yet since I want to buy a dozen official mlb balls first.

Used to only get autographs when a player did a signing at a store or for money at a card show. Was collecting autographs for myself at 1st back when I was in highschool and college, now will take the kids if I know the line won't be too long.

I hear you about Ozzie. I probably got 10 Ozzie autographs in person. I sold them all accept one. Got him in Philly and spring training in Kissimee vs Astros. At the very least I have good memories of getting the graphs.

At this site I'm reading Bobby Bonialla signs. I asked him before a game in 89 in Philly (coming into the park) and he said he was sick and woud sign for me after the game. Needless to say I waited after the game where the players excited. I asked him, he said no. I then told him he would sign after like he said. After some debating, he signed. Christ it was like I was trying to save my life. Now I could just send him a return stamped envelope amd were good to go. Geez.

Just because you asked for an autograph doesn't idolize them. You were raised not to idolize, but you turned into a degen gambler who makes silly videos on a gambling forum.

I was very big into writing letters to players and had some nice success's with Thurman Thomas and Brian Dawkins to name a few but I really only collected items I obtained in person. I met and got a Louisville Slugger signed by Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, and Reggie Jackson when I was 10 or so when they did an event in Atlantic City. Met and got a signed Ron Hextall jersey. A few others.

I had an autographed baseball signed by Pete Rose back in the early 90's. When I got home I was really tired from being at the game and all and I left the ball on the kitchen table. Long story short, my brother and his friends took the ball with them the next morning and used it in the street on the asphalt for their neighborhood pickup game. The ball was scuffed up beyond recognition by lunch time.

I did in high school back in the 70's before the craze caught on where it became an industry.Back then you could use your imagination and come up with any far out story ''trickery''and everyone would send you lots of stuff.I even used to buy official NFL footballs for $28 at the time and drop them off at Lambeau Field and the team would sign them and you would pick them up the next day.The Montreal Canadiens were great too where they would send lots of neat stuff.

Me and a friend had a death list of sports stars and celebrities who we knew weren't far off from meeting their maker and we used to get their signed 8''-10''s.We used to joke that we could see baby food smeared on the stuff.hehe!I could write volumes about all my days of conning people to send me free stuff like that. You would never be able to do it in today's climate. It's amazing how simple things were back then.
