    unit betting system????
I see a lot of you guys talking about betting units. How do you determine the percentage of your bankroll to wager per unit? What if you want to wager on multiple games? Do you divide the number of games by the total amount you have decided to wager with? Or. Do you divide the combined total number of units for all the games by the total amount you have decided to wager with? Or. None of the above??? I would appreciate any advice on this type of betting.

    A "unit" is %1 of a gambler's bankroll.

      Er, what?

A unit is a unit. It isn't a specific anything.

Some people have 1 unit to = $100 [regardless of their bank size], for some people it is 1% of their bank. For some it is $10, for some it is 5% of their bank. Essentially, it is whatever your regular bet size is.

However, you are correct that if one is trying to be a long term winner, in order to protect your bankroll and avoid being wiped out by variance [assuming you have a long term edge], 1% of starting bank as a unit is not a bad way to go about things.

Offtopic: something that annoys me. Why do people pamper their records? If you are consistantly betting "5 units", then it is no longer "5 units". It is 1 unit. 1 unit = your most common occuring bet size.

Then they have records that say +40.46 units. Not quite sunshine; you are up about 8 units. Doesn't sound so great now does it.
