installing Ubuntu 18.04 OS on a 10yo laptop Sammy bought yesterday

Dell Inspiron 1750 , 17" display

in a sports bar watching baseball... dude wanted 50.00

Sammy said "Might be worth 20.00" dude told Sammy "Fuk Off"

20 mins later the guy came back "OK man, I need 30.00"

gave him 30 and bought him a small draft beer

On top of that... already have 2 desktops, 3 laps , 2 tablets and 1 ipad. never throw stuff away.

But grandkids are old enough to tinker so they are happy

I bought a $350 HP a year or so ago. Wish I had spent $700 and bought something faster/better. Which I will do soonishly.

I only really use laptop to go online and play poker so I don't need all the bells and whistles. In my experience, laptops die after a few years so I'm not willing to pay a premium. I bought a new ASUS laptop around 3 years ago on Amazon for ~$250. Assuming it lasts me ~2 years, I'm pleased and this one is still going strong. The previous one I bought lasted 2 years.

If that's true maybe I'm not so unhappy. This one might be over 2 years old now too come to think of it.

my opinions are only based on my past experiences, so maybe take it with a grain of salt. I have never been one that needs the latest and greatest thing and to buy a cheap new one every few years suits my needs.
