The worst wind is just outside eye. Not making landfall doesn't mean it's not bad. Hurricane winds extend out 60'miles from eye. I'm near Melbourne. It's blowing pretty good out there now. Some really strong gusts every now and then

Made it through it never want to go through another one but thank god only some tree damage and 1 small crack in my patio power just got back on so I am very lucky considering 80k people without power

Regardless, now you have hundreds of thousands of people who have fled their perfectly fine homes and are just waiting to be robbed.

When they get back to find what has been taken they will look to the government for help.

Meteorology is not a precise science. Better safe than sorry. If they underwarn then they'd be accused of murder. Not everything is a damn conspiracy.
