Jockey Calvin Borel had a great weekend in Kentucky!
Friday he wins the Kentucky Oaks (by 20 lengths).
Earns $ $33691 for the win

Saturday he wins the Kentucky Derby.
Earns $ $141720 for the win

Almost $175000 earned (before expenses - valet, agent etc.) in those two races alone.

The Kentucky Derby ride is the best ride I have ever seen. He deserves a lot of credit for getting the horse through that last hole by the rail. A gusty move he made look easy.

That guy cracked me up. Never seen anyone as pumped as he was after the race. I don't understand the sport at all though. I saw that arial view and that horse had to run that last straightaway like 3 or 4 seconds faster than any other horse. If that is the case how in the world was he 50 to 1? I know that wasn't the first race that horse ran so someone had to know about that rediculous speed/stamina/whatever you want to call it. If he has never raced like that before maybe they should check for steroids. If he has......50/1????

Better keep in mind true odds on a 20 horse field is 20-1. He was above true odds but only by x2.5. Also remember this horse is only 35 short months old. Developement for horses at that age is rapidly changing which makes the derby impossible to predict. The owners knew or thought they had a chance.

Borel has always been a very underrated jockey that always offers value on his mounts in big races because up until a couple of years ago, nobody outside of Kentucky and Arkansas really knew how good a rider he was.

Plus, before Pat Day and Shane Sellers retired from Kentucky riding, they usually got the big mounts for trainers like Nafzger when he took his horses to the big races, even if Calvin had ridden the same horses to wins before.
