#46I have a buddy who has gambled for 30 years, lost everything including his family. Went for therapy, meetings, etc. Took some college classes and with his past gambling experience now counsels problem gamblers and speaks at schools throughout the US . He is making thousands as compared to when he gambled. BUT he still goes to meetings every damn day to help his sanity.

#55Good for you! Don't let anything or anyone stand in your way of doing the right thing. And I think for you GA is the right way. Just remember that it is a lifelong commitment, not just a one night stand. Be strong, when a door shuts a window will open, you will see there is more to life. :-) Don't listen to these others they just don't want to see anyone happy.Comment -

#59Originally posted by MudcatAll this zaniness aside, gambling addictions are a major, serious problem in our society and GA (Gamblers Anonymous) is a great organization that has done a ton of good for countless individuals and their families around the world.
I am a recovering drug addict/alcoholic - so I have my fair share of exposure to 12-step programs, of which GA is one. For some incredibly lucky reason, my addictive personality has never become a factor in my betting, but I know people from Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous who also go to GA.
Basically what I'm trying to say is, if anyone has any questions about GA, feel free to drop me a PM and I am confident I can get answers. I have some literature here, I have knowledge of 12 steps programs and, most importantly, I know people who go to meetings. Any PM's would be kept in strict confidence.
Okay, resume the zaniness.Comment -

#60Never lasted in the program, it is so hard to quit as the urge is just too great. Anytime I see lines in the paer the urge comes back or of course looking on the pc How do you quit where everywhere you look there are lines? Do you get rid of every pc and never look in a newspaper again? With drinking it is easier to quit because you can avoid being where liquor is being served.
