#2This guy loves the fukkin camera, he is younger than I thought and more of a card than I thought. Ok I have to say that might be the video of the month. This is the 1st time we see a poster singing. No way this guy gambles though, he does not have the gambler look.Comment -

I know. It seems a little out of place. Not much edginess or subversiveness to it.

You know, all kidding aside, the whole thing was a pretty special deal which will be a strong memory for the rest of my life. Mom and dad were so proud. That does not get less significant even at my age.
There is some sub-text there too. My sister is a wonderful person that I was not always the best brother to. I am, after all, a recovering addict/alcoholic. Things were not always peachy. That relationship has been well-repaired for quite awhile but, when I see this video, I can't help but reflect on the before-and-after and feel grateful.
If you watch the video right through to the hug at the end, that is a profound moment for me that runs deep.Comment -

I was hoping you might notice that I managed to dress myself. I don't know if you would remember or not but you advised me awhile back about venturing beyond the world of jeans for a semi-formal date.
Well now look at me! Wearing a suit and blending in with the grown-ups!Comment -

#31JJ why do you find it surprising that normal people gamble and post on gambling forums? Plus he is a recovering addict. Gambling and drugs affect all kinds of people. "Normal" and "not normal".
Nice song Mudcat. Your sense of humor was surprising though. I had you in my head as a guy who doesn't get sarcasm and doesn't have a sense of humor. Maybe you let out your dark side on SBR, and your dark side doesn't have room for jokes.
Maybe I'm over analyzing the situation as usual.Comment -

#32Mudcat, this sent chills up my spine! It was so full of emotion, and the lyrics were so obviously heartfelt, the entire performance just blew me away. I wish I could jam with you someday, you play precisely the style of music that I most enjoy performing.
Is the G Major one of your favorite keys? As a pianist I play all key signatures with facility, but when I compose I tend to use more black keys, typically BMaj or F#Maj.
Thanks so much for sharing! This totally made my day.

A big yes to that. I used to be a much better instrumentalist but I just don't play that much any more so everything gets increasingly simplified. More strumming, less picking. Fewer bar chords and whatnot.
If your thing is a firm strum on a 12 string guitar, there is nothing better than the key of G.
I am probably a little more adventurous on the piano but I'm not as technically proficient as I once was. And regardless, G is a good key for my vocal range. I think I have gotten to the point where my main strength is singing.
Thank you for all your kind words.Comment -

#34Well from what I've heard today I think your voice is spectacular. And I feel you on letting some of the technical musicianship fade as you get older. I've found that I can sound just as good without any of the flourishes and embellishments that I use to apply to my playing. I'm content to weave a chord wall behind my voice and hope that the simplicity carries the day.
On another topic, did you find you had to re-learn some of the fine motor control necessary for quality accompaniment when you stopped drinking? Lately I've realized that I've been drinking so regularly and for so long that when I sit down at the piano sober I truly sound like shit. I need a couple drinks to get my flow and groove, if that makes any sense. I was wondering if you've experienced anything similar.Originally posted by StraitShooter90% of the guys dont give a shit about your problems..and the other 10 are glad you have them..Comment -
